The combat and leveling systems have changed slightly in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Everything is more streamlined, and the action is a lot quicker, so it’s easy to feel a little lost, especially if you’ve just played Remake. Fortunately, earning proficiency with weapon skills is the same as before.
What are weapon skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Each weapon in FF7R has a unique ability. These are actions you can make during battles to help turn the tide in your favour. Tifa’s Dive Kick is a good example. Initially, you can only use the abilities of the weapon you’ve got equipped and any previously mastered skills. Once you’ve gained proficiency in a weapon skill, it’s yours to use no matter what you’ve got equipped.
How to earn weapon skill proficiency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
The best way to gain proficiency in a weapon skill is to just use the weapon a lot. You’ll gradually gain small amounts of skill with the weapon as you take it into combat, shown by the little bar under the skill’s name slowly filling.
If you want to get proficiency even faster, you have to fulfill the conditions of the proficiency bonus. This can be like finishing off an enemy, staggering opponents, or hitting two foes simultaneously. A pop-up will appear when you’ve done this.
The bonus is typically made easier by using the weapon skill in question. Tifa’s Dive Kick does a lot of damage, so use it on weakened fiends to finish them off and get that bonus.
You’ll know you’ve got the bonus when an on-screen pop-up occurs telling you. You can also check the weapon screen. If there’s a yellow tick next to the weapon skill, you’ve mastered it.
Just keep doing this, and you’ll have mastered all the weapon skills in no time.
