For you old school gamers out there, you might remember the title of Wizardy. It was a classic RPG game which followed the old school style of D&D. Here we are 30 years later and on Wizardy’s anniversary, the game will be making its way into the MMO space with Wizardry Online. Gamepot (not Gamespot) is publishing an updated version of the game where players can do some classic dungeon crawling and battle it out with epic monsters.

The game will be free to play and give players easy access to a new party system as well as PvP. These features will be combined for the classic game play that is Wizardy. Don’t let the name fool you, there are several classes in Wizardy that are playable and gamers will enjoy the breakdown.

If you followed the popular RPG from the 1980s you know that the game really introduced the Dungeons & Dragons style of game onto the computer. Throughout the series the game became more complex offering players more options and game play. In its early days Wizardry was seen as a triumph and really hits at the core of the Golden Age of Gaming in 1981 and 1982.

The new title has just been announced (hence the lack of real concrete info) and players will be able to explore the world again in a free to play format. Right now the game is in early stages so the game trailer and some screens are included from E3 2011. From the screens it looks like it will be a first person view. The game world looks like the classic fantasy setting. Even though it is being developed in Japan it looks like they are really going with a western art-style for the classic RPG.

Overall it appears that there will be a lot to look forward to with Wizardry Online, especially if you were a fan of the old series. Gamepot is building the game with Headlock Studio and expects to launch sometime in 2012. We’ll bring you coverage on this title as more information appears. For now check out the screens and remind yourself of the glory days of PC RPGs.
