Season 5 to Kick Off on July 12th + Fortnite Playground LTM Launches - MMORPG.com

For Fortnite players who love seasonal play, today's news that Season 5 will kick off on July 12th will come as a welcome surprise. To get everyone fill up the tiers, Epic is providing a 100% XP bonus from June 29th to July 2nd.

In addition, today's update brings the Fortnite Playground limited time mode into the game. This allows up to four players to hone their skills in a small instance that provides a "safe zone". Players will also find the newly added map markers  and Dual Pistols for more fun and firepower.

Save the World players will "discover how the quadrilogy ends in the finale of the Blockbuster event" and that the Builder Pro controller layout has finally arrived.

  • Celebrate summer with the Fireworks Launcher, which has been added as a seasonal item that has firework explosions and replaces the Grenade Launcher for a limited time. (cosmetic change only).
  • Save the World and Battle Royale keybindings are now separated. Settings in one mode will not affect the settings of the other.
  • Changed the button that lets you re-roll one daily quest or challenge from 'Abandon Quest' to 'Replace Quest', to make the behavior more obvious.

Check out the full update notes on the Fortnite site.

In addition, Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment of America, gave some hope to those bent out of shape at the lack of simple crossplay with PS4:

"We're hearing it. We're looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business."
