Firefall players will have a lot to do when servers come back up from maintenance that will deploy the War in the Amazon update. Players will be taking on The Chosen in the Amazon basin and working cooperatively to retake bases, protect supply lines and more. The Firefall team has sent out the first image and information about February's update. Players can look forward to a new level 40 PvE zone, a brand new reputation system and much more when the update goes live. The update is a work in progress and it on the public test server at the moment. The video below gives a good idea of what players can expect.
Firefall players will have plenty of opportunity to take part in the holiday themed Wintertide Event when it kicks off later today and continues through January 6th. During Wintertide, players can try their hand at Whack-an-Elf or take part in a grand melee snowball fight. Completing Wintertide events makes players eligible for some awesome gifts courtesy of special vendors in Copacabana, Dredge, and Kanaloa Research Station.
Red 5 has a new Chosen Offensive planned for Firefall players on December 7th. The offensive will be a developer-controlled event that will run from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. PST (1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST) on Saturday. Players will be charged with defending themselves against waves of elite Chosen monsters all of which will be controlled by the development team themselves.
Red 5 Studios has announced the release of the latest and most significant update to Firefall. Called "Together Toward Victory", the patch features important PvP enhancements, new open world encounters, a special 5-player instance and more. It is a free update to all Firefal players.
Red 5 has put up a teaser page for the forthcoming Firefall update scheduled to hit live service next week. Called "Together Toward Victory", the update will deliver new open world events and instanced adventures outside the normal campaign missions. Together Toward Victory is expected to go live on November 18th.
Red 5 has released a Firefall teaser image that simply says, "14...Initializing Operation..." What it means remains a mystery, though many are speculating a big update announcement soon. What do you think?
Players are invited to attend the third and final Chosen Offensive. The developers will be suited up in elite Chosen monstrosities and will be taking on the players in a battle royal. The event is slated to take place on Sunday, October 5th from 11:00 a.m. PDT to 2:00 p.m. PDT (2:00 p.m. EDT - 5:00 p.m. EDT). Developers were trounced last week by the players and devs are out for revenge.
Red5 is giving control of several of Firefall's bosses on Sunday, September 28th and players are tasked with taking them down. During this special event, players will be able to score some items that are exclusive to the event.
When several of our podcasters at Sitting on a Couch emailed me that Firefall was patching and going live in just a few months, I could only shake my head sadly at what I perceived would be an ill-fated first step. Then I saw the patch notes, and was blown away at the level of change that they were incorporating just before launch. Vertical scaling, simplified missions, ability unlocks at progression, and a full on end-game raid! Yes, Please!
Firefall players can check into the game later today to see what's new with the v1.1: Elemental Destruction update. According to press information, Elemental Destruction features a new Titan battle hardcore mode, new weapons, new dynamic encounters and more.
The Firefall site has been updated with information about a new live event that will run from now through September 12th. Called "Hazardous Research", the event will give players the opportunity to participate in a pair of dynamic events that give a chance at an awesome new weapon and credits beyond the normal daily limit.
After a turbulent beta, FireFall has finally launched, surprising us all with a much improved MMO shooter. During Gamescom, columnist Gareth Harmer caught up with Red 5 designer David Williams to get an update on the current state on the game, and a couple of hints on what’s coming down the pipeline.
All MMOs are a work in progress long after launch, I get that. But Firefall from Red5 Studios is a particularly special case. Years and years into development, the game has seen complete re-works on several occasions, the most recent of which came after the founder and CEO Mark Kern was removed from his position. Development went dark, and Red5 went hardcore and all-in towards making a game in which they all believed.
