Red 5 Studios has announced that it has scored over 500,000 beta registrations for its inaugural game, Firefall. According to the team, this represents a significant and important step for the building of community.

First Manga Issue Launching Today

Red 5 Studios has announced that today marks the first release of a manga series dedicated to Firefall. The series is written by Orson Scott Card Emily Janice Card with artwork provided by UDON Comics. The plan is for weekly issues to be released through 2013.


Red 5 to Open EU Office

The Red 5 team has announced that a new office will be opening in Cork, Ireland later this year. The new office will help spearhead Firefall's EU iteration and the move will create thirty jobs in the area.

NDA Lifts

Closed Beta Access 24/7 Starting April 2nd

In a letter posted to the Firefall site, Red 5 Studios has announced that closed beta testers will be able to access game servers 24/7 beginning Monday, April 2nd. In addition, the beta pool players are going to be playing on the same servers as PAX East attendees who access the game during the convention. In other words, "BE NICE!"


Demo Version to Be Shown at PAX East

Red 5 Studios has announced that attendees at next month's PAX East convention will be able to get their grubby little hands on a Firefall demo. The demo is the same one that invite-only closed beta testers are currently playing.

Red5 Studios has sent out a new developer diary discussing world building for Firefall. The team reveals their goals for the game as well as the tools they use to make Firefall fun, interesting and beautiful for players.


Battleframe Trailer Challenge

The Firefall team has thrown down the gauntlet to all fans to become filmmakers in the just-announced Battleframe Trailer Challenge. Devs have provided a bevy of images and clips of various battleframes and are asking players to put them together in a trailer showing off their favorite. After that, simply upload it to the Firefall site and wait to be chosen as the winner.


Player Feedback Impacts Future Content

The latest video developer diary from Firefall's Mark Kern has been released. In the February edition, Kern discusses how player decisions affects "the roll out of new content". It starts with one set of features with developers taking feedback from players that will directly impact what comes next.


Publishers 'Not Meaningful for the Developer'

Red5's Mark Kern makes no secret of his disdain for gigantic publishing houses in a new interview at GamesIndustry.biz. The discussion begins with information about Kern's founding of League for Gamers, an organization that seeks to be an alternative to the ESA and publishers that supported the recent SOPA/PIPA legislation.


League for Gamers Formed

Red 5 Studios has pledged $50,000 in seed money to form a new organization to advocate for developers' and gamers' rights. Called "League for Gamers", the organization is billed as an alternative to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) which recently has taken a lot of heat for its support of the controversial SOPA legislation in the United States.
