Moogle Post Founder 'Oldbear Stormborn' Accused of Sexual Harassment & Blackmail
PC Gamer is reporting that over a dozen women have accused the founder and editor of The Moogle Post community blog for Final Fantasy XIV of sexual harassment and blackmail. The writer has interviewed nine of the twelve women alleging the abuses by Oldbear, a group that collectively calls itself the Anonymous Janes in order to protect their privacy.
The group have been posting recorded testimonies online regarding the progression of the alleged abuses. According to the summaries, Oldbear would establish a "close relationship" that was either romantic or professional (or both) before he began to "emotionally abuse, manipulate and blackmail" the women. The charges go back over five years.
Amparro, an editor for The Moogle Post who resigned earlier this year, was aware of Oldbear's steadily growing and troubling reputation with women in FF14, but told me Oldbear convinced her it was merely bitter exes looking to smear him. Again, she fell victim to the same pattern: Shower with affection, gain trust, attempt sexual advances, manipulate. It was to Amparro that Oldbear first confessed his "game" of making women like him as an attempt to ease her anger when she found out, to her dismay at that time, his sexual advances weren't exclusive to her.
For his part, Oldbear denies the accusations but has left The Moogle Post because he is "not interested in having malicious drama negatively affect the project".
