This past Saturday, a Final Fantasy XIV player named Ferne Le'roy from the Zalera had their life tragically ended due to the Coronavirus, COVID-19. Their Free Company, Figaro National Guard asked the server to join them in the game for a funeral march from Ul'dah to the Guardian Tree which is located in The Shroud.
This isn't the first time we've seen a funeral held in an MMORPG for a fallen player (and it's certainly not even the first in FFXIV) , but it's still a testament to the power of camaraderie that brings us all closer together in these scary times of isolation and fear.
The video is about an hour long, and is presented here for the memory of Ferne Le'roy and the Figaro National Guard FC. We're sorry for your loss, and to the family/friends/FC of this player, our thoughts are with you.
