How to Earn Your Own Anima Weapon in Heavensward

Welcome back folks to another installment of Eorzea Reborn. This week, I’ll be talking about the path to earning the recently released Anima weapons for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. Historically, the special weapons acquisition quests tended to be a long slog, requiring a user to go through a rather long grind through specific types of content just to get one.

The first requirement is that you’ll need to have completed the Heavensward main questline to even get the quest “An Unexpected Proposal” from Rowena in Idyllshire. This will kick off the entire series, and allow you to access the main questgiver that enables the Anima Weapon creation.

This time around, there are some slight differences. Players can actually go through multiple instances of the questline for each weapon you want to create particular to a class. So you can be on Step 2 of your Dragoon weapon while working on Step 1 of your Dark Knight weapon, for example.

Of course, getting through one step is going to take some dedication. Let’s go through each needed step.

18 Crystals from FATEs...

The first major step of the Anima Weapon questline is the acquisition of 3 crystals of a specific type from completing FATES in 6 regions of the Heavensward areas. The quest is called “Soul Without Life.”

Here’s the breakdown of the needed items:

  1. 3 Luminous Wind Crystals in the Sea of Clouds
  2. 3 Luminous Fire Crystals in Azys Lla
  3. 3 Luminous Earth Crystals in the Dravanian Forelands
  4. 3 Luminous Water Crystals in the Dravanian Hinterlands
  5. 3 Luminous Lightning Crystals in the Churning Mists
  6. 3 Luminous Ice Crystals in the Coerthas Western Highlands

This is relatively straightforward, though likely time-consuming if FATE parties form that are too large. With a very large FATE group attempting a FATE, a monster in the FATE might have too much HP for characters to burst through. Still, if everyone’s on DPS, this is still not too bad, I suppose.

Better still, those who have completed the acquisition of the Zeta weapon from the weapon questlines in the A Realm Reborn time period can turn in their Zeta Weapons to complete this questline and bypass it entirely.

10 dungeon runs...

The next step involves the quest, “Toughening Up.” You need to go through 10 dungeons to toughen up your weapon, more or less.

According to information bandied about, the first  6 of the dungeons listed below can be done without being level-synced.

  1. Snowcloak
  2. Sastasha (Hard)
  3. Qarn (Hard)
  4. Keeper of the Lake
  5. Wanderer's Palace (Hard)
  6. Amdapor Keep (Hard)
  7. Dusk Vigil
  8. Sohm Al
  9. The Aery
  10. The Vault

There is also information online that says you only need to exit the dungeon with the relic equipped, but you may not need to fight the dungeon with the weapon you’re forging as your equipped weapon..Personally, try that on one of the first 6 dungeons listed above just to be on the safe side.

Completing this part of the questline gives you an iLvl 200 weapon, called the Awoken weapons.

Read on to find out what Gerolt needs and how to finish off the process!
