Two songs from the Final Fantasy XIV soundtrack were played at the Distant Worlds concert in Chicago by the Chicago Pops Orchestra. A YouTube video by user takjak2 allows those of us who missed the concert to take a listen!
Those looking to gain access to the Final Fantasy XIV beta with their purchase of FFXIII are unfortunately in for a bit of disappointment. Previously, we reported on the translation of a few scans from Japanese gaming magazine Shounen Jump that indicated there would be a FFXIV tie-in for customers who purchase the game, with what appeared to be access to the game's beta test.
The official Final Fantasy XIV website has been updated with information and images of the Pugilist and Gladiator classes. The Gladiator is described as essentially your typical warrior, master of many bladed weapons and shields, with the flexibility to fit an offensive or defensive role. Gladiators will also apparently be masters of throwing knives, which is well, quite cool! The Pugilist class is basically your monk, but is also able to throw the chakram with deadly proficiency.
According to a report over at FFXIV fansite FFXIVCore, fans who purchase FFXIII will receive access to the FFXIV beta test. This information has appeared in a set of scans from Japanese magazine Shonen Jump.
Final Fantasy XIV music will be performed by the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra and the Elmhurst College Concert Choir and conducted by Arnie Roth at the "Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY" concert taking place at the Rosemont Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on December 12th, 2009 at 8PM.
A pair of leaked Famitsu scans have surfaced and translated over at Final Fantasy XIV fansite, FFXIVCore. The new scans reveal the Lancer job, and a number of new creatures including Raptors.
Final Fantasy XIV Director Hiromichi Tanaka spoke to Game Watch recently and revealed that the beta for FFXIV will be PC only. The beta will begin with about 10,000 testers and slowly ramp up as it eventually opens to the public. According to Tanaka, the beta could be in full swing by Summer 2010.
Appearing at this year's Tokyo Games Show is a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV. The trailer is a mix of CG and gameplay footage, much like the original trailer that debuted at this year's E3. The folks over at One Last Continue sat down with FFXIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka and global online producer Sage Sundi at this year's GamesCom for an interview on Square Enix's sophomore MMOG effort, Final Fantasy XIV. The interview has produced some interesting information, namely, that Final Fantasy XIV would feature cross-platform play between the PC and PS3, but it doesn't end there either! In addition to cross-platform play, international servers will also be a focus.
According to a comment given to VG247 at GamesCom by FFXIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka, Square Enix is in discussions with Microsoft regarding bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the XBOX 360. While that is certainly great news, it's not all peachy. Discussions are currently being held up due to logistical issues involving XBOX Live. According to Tanaka, even if the 360 version becomes a reality, it will not be part of the simultaneous PC and PS3 release of the game due sometime next year.
