March Update Now Live

The March version update to Final Fantasy XI is now live! The update includes the addition of Odin and Alexander summons previously mentioned at VanaFest 2010, as well as new Wings of the Goddess storyline missions, the usual job tweaks, this time for the Puppetmaster, Summoner and Beastmaster, and lots more.


VanaFest '10: New Scenarios Announced; Level Cap Increased

For those doubting the future of Final Fantasy XI due to recent rumors floating about, fear not! At this year's VanaFest, which celebrated eight years of Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix announced a whopping three new scenarios for the venerable MMOG which will all release this year. In addition to the three new scenarios, Final Fantasy XI will also see a bump in level cap to level 99 and the introduction of Odin and Alexander summons for players to call on in battle.


Report: Shutting Down This Year?

MMOSite is reporting on a rumor that Final Fantasy XI may be shutting down this year. The rumor originates from a "Japanese game media" that has published the supposed public admittance from a Square Enix employee that Final Fantasy XI would be shutting down this year due to the release of Final Fantasy XIV.


A Shantotto Ascension Hands On Report

Starlight Celebration Begins Dec. 18

Square Enix has announced that this year's Starlight Celebration will begin on Friday, December 18th and continue through Thursday, Decemmber 31st. However, the Smilebringer Boot Camp will continue past the event end date, though in a somewhat altered form. The Smile sergeants will be garbed in different outfits, charge a participation fee, and offer different rewards.


Mog Bonanza Returns This December

Square Enix has announced that the Mog Bonanza lottery will return to FFXI on December 24th, 2009! On December 24th, all characters who have been active for at least 45 days will be able to purchase a Mog Marble which is inscribed with a set of five numbers. On January 29th, 2010, the winning numbers will be announced and players will be awarded prizes based on the amount of numbers matched.

Ultimate Collection Now on Steam!

The Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection is now available on Steam for $19.99. The new compilation pack contains the standard 30 days of free game time, all four expansions released for FFXI to date (Rise of the Zilart® Chains of Promathia®, Treasures of Aht Urhgan®, Wings of the Goddess®) as well as all three add-on scenarios released for the game this year (A Crystalline Prophecy, A Moogle Kupo d'Etat, A Shantotto Ascension).


Version Update, Shantotto Ascension Live

The November Version Update for Final Fantasy XI is now live! This latest game update introduces a number of major additions to Final Fantasy XI including new Wings of the Goddess quests, updates to the Mobiln Maze Mongers, a bevy of major job changes, and numerous other tweaks. Also launching with today's update is the "A Shantotto Ascension" add-on scenario, so if you've pre-purchased the add-on you should be able to download and jump right into it!


Evolith System Unveiled

Coming along with the many features to be introduced with this month's version update will be a new "Evolith" system just unveiled today. Evolith are stones that can be used to slot into gear conferring powerful bonuses. The stones are obtained through "hunt regimes" targeted at NM's or notorious monsters. A new crafting discipline called synergy will allow for players to etch up to three Evolith slots into their equipment, as well.


Presales Begin for A Shantotto Ascension

Pre-sales for "A Shantotto Ascension" the third and final entry to the three part scenario series to be released for Final Fantasy XI this year have begun today. The scenario is priced at $9.99 and is available for purchase to PlayOnline users through the PlayOnline Viewer. The actual download for the add-on will become available on the game's release date of Tuesday, November 9th, 2009.


Ultimate Collection On Nov. 10th

Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in North America, today announced that FINAL FANTASY® XI Ultimate Collection will be released on November 10th in North America, in time for the holidays. A Shantotto Fan Art Contest

The release of "A Shantotto Ascension", the final chapter in the three-part scenario series that begun earlier this year, is upon us! And what's a major content release without a contest to go along with it? Square Enix is launching a fan art contest asking players to submit their best fan-art of Lady Shantotto, the diminutive would-be ruler.


Harvest Festival 2009 Details

The Harvest Festival 2009: Tales from the Cryptaru event will run from Friday, October 16 through to Monday, November 2nd. The event will see players completing tasks for their purple-winged partners the Moogles, participating in trick-or-treating with costumed NPCs, and taking part in a new Wake of the Lillies event for would-be shadow hunters to tackle.
