Wake me up on April 2nd

Personally, as someone whose job it is to scour the internet for gaming news, April Fool's Day is simultaneously fun and annoying. It's one thing to see an overtly obvious prank from our favorite gaming companies - but some are getting so good at it I start to believe it myself until I check the date.

Today is no different.

Here are some of the best pranks from the gaming world, with a special focus on the ones we love most: MMOs and RPGs.

Discord Lootboxes

Discord is finally getting in on the gamblin' action, it seems.

EVE Online Gets NERF'd

EVE players can now enjoy some Recreational content in their game launcher, with the latest NERF to come to New Eden. The New Eden Recreational Feed brings music, in-game apps and more.

World of Warcraft's Patch Notes - Eliminating Leaks

The World of Warcraft team has put together a set of patch notes celebrating the fact that the recent 10.2.6 update wans't leaked ahead of time...only to leak the patch notes for the next update, 10.6.2.  The notes declare that the MMO is in a "unprecedented state of nearly-perfect balance across all classes" so there will no longer be Class Changes coming.

Palworld

Palworld is teasing a new way to interact with your pals with a new dating sim update - "More Than Just Pals." Honestly, the video alone is worth watching as it looks like pretty much every anime dating sim on Steam right now.

DCUO

DC Universe Online players can now get...pizza. Unless there's a joke I'm missing....pizza.

Guild Wars 2 Fake Patch Notes

Guild Wars 2 is also doing the Fake Patch Notes thing, with some incredibly funny quips. Not only have the ArenaNet team removed all the gathering nodes from the world for polishing, WvW map population caps have been removed in order to "reduce server load," and (this is my favorite), "Banner skills are now categorized as heraldic."

Valheim's New Game Mode

Valheim players are able to take a break from the grind of the Viking afterlife and set up shop as a humble dwarven trader.

RuneScape Bench Sitting Lifeskill

Now you can watch the world pass you by in RuneScape, earning the new Bench sitting skill. Oh, and a cape to show off just how much you've sat and took in the landscapes.

Embers Adrift

Embers Adrift is getting a few changes, from its PvP proving grounds to longer night cycles.

Razer Embraces The Great Old One

Razer's incredible Iskur V2 chair has seen an upgrade as the company has teamed up with the Great Old One himself, Cthulhu.

Tower of Fantasy Taken Over By A Cat

A cat has taken over Tower of Fantasy's Twitter account, bringing the MMEOWRPG to the masses.

Star Citizen R.A.P.T.O.R

Star Citizen has released a new vehicle you can spend your hard earned money on, and the vehicle itself is equally hard working. The MISC R.A.P.T.O.R is effectively the chimney sweep of the galaxy, cleaning up everyone else's messes to enable humanity to drive towards an "immaculate, sparkling future."

AdventureQuest3D gets a chocolatey crossover with Wiggly Whompa

AdventureQuest3D's developers are some of the most creative we've seen hit the MMORPG space in years, and this year's April Fool's Joke is no different. Chocolatier Wiggly Whompa has invaded the game, bringing a "sweet gold boost" thanks to the new update - and the best part about this joke? It's like, actually real. Go play!

Dual Universe Novean Yard Office of Terrain Adjustors

Dual Universe is teasing a home improvement service, helping players with those pesky mistakes made while terraforming in the galaxy. The Novean Yard Office of Terrain Adjustors is here to help.

TemTem Teases Spin Offs

TemTem is doing another spin off, only this time it's (thankfully) fake.

SEGA Announces CLC - Cartridge Loadable Content

SEGA is returning to its Genesis roots and has announced a new form of DLC, called CLC. This new cartridge system allows players to combine different cartridges to create a bespoke Sonic experience, such as "Sonic the Hedge" or "Big Head Sonic" modes.

Star Trek Online: Unleashed

Star Trek Online got in on the action with a tease of an STO fighting game, Star Trek: Unleashed.  The mode brings hand-to-hand combat to the space faring MMO, just as Gods and Men intended.

Minecraft: Potato Edition

Minecraft is reminding players that you need at least 5-7 servings of poisonous potatoes to keep the doctor away.

Black Desert Teases...Something

Black Desert Online and Console are teasing...something.

That's all for now, folks. But we'll update this post as we find more.
