Guild Wars 2: Is it too Late for New Races?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

When dragons first reared their heads, the first responders of Tyria were the Asura, the Charr, the Humans, the Norn, and the Sylvari. With their powers combined, they created an alliance which culminated in a slew of playable races with semi-important perspectives and mostly forgotten racial abilities. After days of cavorting with Hylek, and meeting the Mursaat, one might think the possibility of another playable race is right around the corner. Unfortunately, my friendly Tyrians, I fear you are wrong. Posted Feb 21, 2019 by Steven Weber

Guild Wars 2: Tracking Projects

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

One of the things I love about Guild Wars 2 is there is never a shortage of things for me to work on. However, this is also the biggest issue I have in GW2… I have so many projects I’m working on I sometimes forget what I’m working on! Some of this is my issue because I can’t just focus on one project at a time, but some of this is an issue with how the UI in GW2 works.Posted Feb 15, 2019 by Robin Baird

Guild Wars 2: Playing Together or Getting Further Apart?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

After more than six years, I can still remember finding ArenaNet’s approach to gathering mind-blowing. Like world events and mob tagging, the gathering system in Guild Wars 2 dragged us out of the dark ages. In a move that seems almost obvious now, ArenaNet instanced gathering nodes, materials, and collectible resources to individual players wandering the Plains of Ashford or skipping through the Streets of Divinity's Reach.Posted Feb 8, 2019 by Ed Orr

Guild Wars 2: Jack of All Trades

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

As I’ve adventured in Tyria, made some alts, and fiddled with some builds I’ve come to realize there is really no wrong way to play Guild Wars 2. I know that is a loaded statement and let me clarify. Casual play is the best way for me to approach Guild Wars. I login, do a couple of quests and zones, do some crafting and logout. No pressure at all. Meet some great people, and genuinely enjoy myself. Not something I can say about MMORPGs lately. Posted Feb 1, 2019 by Josh Hay

Casual Play is Guild Wars 2's Greatest Strength

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

If you are a hardcore Guild Wars 2 fan, and login every single day for your dailies, chomp at the bit for every living world release, and achievement hunt until your face is as blue as a Quaggan, then perhaps this article may seem a little blasé. For the rest of us who can’t be bothered with the minutia of daily Tyrian life, there lies a greater strength hidden inside Guild Wars 2, it’s supreme use of casual play.Posted Jan 25, 2019 by Steven Weber

Guild Wars 2: Is it Wise to Trust Glint?

Guild Wars 2: All or Nothing Hands-on Preview

Guild Wars 2 - Previews

Guild Wars 2 finally sits at the precipice of a massive moment. Kralkatorrik, the Dragon that broke Destiny’s Edge, lies before us. Think of the team here at MMORPG as your reconnaissance scouts, as we step towards the penultimate episode of Living World season 4, All or Nothing.Posted Jan 7, 2019 by Ed Orr

Is it Time for Guild Wars 3?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

Lo and behold we have entered 2019, and within the breadth of the new year resides a new chapter of Guild Wars 2, adorned with the promise of new adventures in Tyria. After 6 years of Dragons, Golems and Gods, much has changed in the evolving world ArenaNet has created, and yet, despite a very lively and passionate essence still thriving amidst the perpetual chaos, it’s not hard to see that Guild Wars 2 Is starting to show its age. Guild Wars 2: A Star Guiding Us to Kralkatorric

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

Since we have a date for Episode 5, January 8th for anyone who missed it, I figured it was a good time to look back and recap where things left off in A Star to Guide Us. With the couple of month gaps between each episode I have found I often forget a lot of what happens during the episode. Additionally the trailer gave us a bit of a glimpse into All or Nothing and I have some ideas about where the story will be going from here. Posted Dec 31, 2018 by Robin Baird

Guild Wars 2 - How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Golem

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

After years of apathy towards the marvels of the Asura, one moment gave me a reason to reconsider my reticence. Simply put, a little Golem stole my heart. That’s right, a glimmer of humanity among these walking inferiority complexes sprung into Living World episode, A Bug in the System made me look at the Genius Operated Living Enchanted Manifestation in a different light. Guild Wars 2 - A Merry New Wintersday Experience

Guild Wars 2 - Previews

This year, ArenaNet has unveiled The Secret Lair of the Snowmen, which plays off of the famed Guild Wars 1 event sharing the same name. As could be expected from such an event, Wintersday may be in trouble, and it’s up to all able-bodied heroes to face an icy, cold-hearted threat, lest a beloved Holiday be ruined. We had the chance to join a guided play through of the event that took us through a little bit of the lore whilst defining what dangers players may encounter in this new 10-person Holiday Raid.Posted Dec 11, 2018 by Steven Weber

Guild Wars 2 - Beetle Races

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

One of the best aspects of the Path of Fire expansion was the introduction of mounts and how they have just completely changed the way players traverse through Tyria. Of course, the great thing about mounts isn’t just the mounts themselves but also all the cool mount races we got as well. Until recently these races have either been seasonal or are in one of the new zones introduced in the PoF expansion. However, this past week ArenaNet introduced five new races which all take place in core Tyria zones.Posted Nov 30, 2018 by Robin Baird

Guild Wars 2 PvP – Automated Atrophy?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

It’s been more than 7 months since Steven touched on PVP and metabattle. He proposed that jumping on the metabattle bandwagon could make you the PvP problem but I’ve been swinging swords on various accounts over recent months and I don’t think PvP really needs a moratorium on metabattle. Instead, this month’s PvP lets play with community partner Jebro highlighted more fundamental issues with Guild Wars 2’s competitive game.Posted Nov 23, 2018 by Ed Orr

Returning to GW2 – Oh Dungeons Where Art Thou?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

In my ongoing theme, created and catering to the new and returning Guild Wars 2 player, I wanted to take a stark detour and plow the depths of Guild Wars 2’s dungeons. While WvW has largely been considered the shunned, proverbial red headed stepchild of Guild Wars 2, dungeons would be like that stepchild’s creepy basement dwelling uncle who people only see on holidays.Posted Nov 16, 2018 by Steven Weber

The Recurring Issue in Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

There’s one aspect of GW2 which is a recurring problem for me and it’s the churn and burn nature of the new zones we get with each living story episode. Often if I don’t get everything I want done in a zone it can be prohibitively difficult to go back and get these things done. Honestly, it’s not just related to the new content either, events in the core Tyria maps can also provide challenges. I’ll illustrate this using the roller beetle collection.Posted Nov 9, 2018 by Robin Baird

Guild Wars 2 Mount Racing Making a Mountain out of a Wurmhill

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

My skeleton bashing was interrupted, this time, by the addition of a mount race in the Mad King’s domain. A relatively small slither of new content for this seasonal update, this is one of two new mount races in a marathon of content that is intended to give players value from their time.Posted Nov 2, 2018 by Ed Orr

Returning to Guild Wars 2 – World Boss Wonderment

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

In a land of Dragons and Magic and whatever a Karka is, the enemies a player may face in Guild Wars 2 should not be taken lightly. In my previous articles I have given players some tips and knowledgeable tools to get their bearings after joining, or rejoining, the land of Tyria. In todays jaunt back into the ever-changing world, we’ll be talking about World Bosses and Meta Events, including what they are, and why you as a new or returning player should care. The Glorious Return of Mad King Thorn!

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

It’s that time of year again, time to play Mad King says, and run around in the Labyrinth trying to kill each other. And don’t forget about the clocktower! It’s is truly the most wonderful time of year! But what’s this? You think the Mad King is just some crazy weirdo who pops up for reasons? Oh, my friend let me tell you all about our wonderful and benevolent King! Posted Oct 19, 2018 by Robin Baird

Returning to Guild Wars 2 – Returning Player Priorities

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

Over my past several articles I’ve spent time outlining the classes and delved into players handling their inventory. Now we will head into the meat and potatoes, outlining some of the massive changes ArenaNet has added over the years for end-game play, while helping players prioritize what may interest them most upon returning, and when they may need to employ new tactics on the battlefield. Warning returning players, there be tough decision ahead!Posted Oct 12, 2018 by Steven Weber

Who Wants to Play WvW in Guild Wars 2?

Guild Wars 2 - Columns

Way back when Guild Wars 2 released I came into Tyria riding high off the waves of Atreia. NCSoft’s pigeon loving playground was a haven for many of us that loved large scale combat. Gigantic battles full of factional warmongers were regular as clockwork and Guild Wars 2’s World vs World seemed like the natural successor. Posted Oct 5, 2018 by Ed Orr
