What Will Be in the First DLC?

There may be spoilers in the article beyond this paragraph, so reader beware! It’s been a few months now since Fallout 4 came, conquered, and sold a bajillion copies across multiple platforms. There is a Season Pass for DLC, but as of this writing… we still don’t know anything about what that downloadable content will contain.  Here then are some of our best guesses and wishes for just what will be in Fallout 4’s first DLC pack.


First up, we’ll let Mike Bitton share his hopes and dreams…


For me, I don’t particularly care what Bethesda puts out, as long as it offers content for high level players. I can’t really enjoy even the simple notion of going around exploring anymore, because my character is too high level. I’ve gone to all the most dangerous places in the game and found enemies at anywhere ranging only from levels 4-15 or so. Rarely, I’ll see something at level 30. What gives? The only enemies that appear to scale are legendary types, so there really isn’t a whole lot of challenge in wandering the Wasteland past a certain point.

So, how about some DLC targeted at high level players? Or DLC that just scales for any level? If I absolutely had to pick a theme, I’d want it to be something Brotherhood of Steel related, since that’s the faction I went with during the main campaign. Radiant quests just don’t do anything for me. I want to see where the BoS takes things next now that the main threat of The Institute has been taken care of. Heck, I think it would be a good idea for Bethesda to put out a DLC for each of the game's main factions, so all players could continue their stories there. Alternatively, I'd love to see DLC focused on some of the other less represented factions, such as the Gunners, Triggermen, the Forged, or even the Children of Atom.


My wants are pretty simple. I’ll list them out below…

1. The ability to upgrade and craft full suits of armor, not just pieces of armor.  Give us more ways to make unique sets, a la Elder Scrolls Online.

2. More settler options, having more choices for them to guard or even become a companion with you. It could be great fun to run with more than one companion through the Wasteland.

3. Go beyond the Institute story line. While these endings were good, it’s time to go deeper.

4. This is just a fun one, but do something with the Upper Decks of Diamond City.  It’s such a cool place, let’s go deeper into its people and its stories.

5. The Swan as a companion! (Okay, maybe I’ll leave that up to the modders.)


I agree with Mike’s, and even Garrett’s wish for Swan as a companion.  But my wants are pretty simple. Give a purpose to the settlement and housing systems. Right now, aside from “making cool looking monstrosities”, there’s little to no real point to them. I’m glad that I don’t get punished for ignoring them in Fallout 4 proper, but I’d love to see a very real reason to defend, build up, and really engage with settlements.  If that doesn’t happen, I’ll just as well keep on ignoring them as I have for months.

Secondly, I’d really like to see some new mechanics added to Fallout 4.  As others have stated, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing, Fallout 4 feels like a prettier Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Graphically, it’s improved, and I suppose the settlement idea is a new mechanic and one that many people really seem floored by (no pun intended). I’d love to see vehicles become an actual part of the game, rather than a side-show. The Power Armor, the manual gunning in the Vertibirds… those bits of the game show that the tech is there. The problem of course is that the map is too small and dense to really need vehicles the way the Elder Scrolls games need horses.  And I mean, if you really want to get somewhere fast, you’ll just instant travel anyway. So alas, that might be a pipedream more than anything.
