GamersFirst and the Fallen Earth development team have officially unveiled several key components of the free to play iteration of the game. First off the bat is the announcement that Fallen Earth's free to play version will launch on October 12th.
Fallen Earth's Marie Croall has released the August State of the Game letter on the game's new blog. In it, Croall talks about the upcoming "Fast Travel" patch, Fallen Earth's second anniversary, forthcoming economic changes and a teaser about a live event the team has planned for September.
A new Fallen Earth patch is scheduled to begin deployment on Wednesday, August 10th. Among the usual bug fixes and game enhancements, the patch will include a new fast travel system. Players will be able to travel between certain 'LifeNet Pods'.

The team at Fallen Earth is making the full transition over to GamersFirst and it's all coming to a head on August 1st, as Fallen Earth becomes one with the GamersFirst publishing platform. Players will have to sign up for a GamersFirst Account and merge their new account with their Fallen Earth account, "Voltron Style"
Fallen Earth players will receive the new Alpha County expansion for free according to a press release from GamersFirst. Alpha County brings a new explorable zone in addition to improved skills, 'progress' towns and new end-game content into the game. Servers will be down to deploy the update beginning at 11:00 EST.
The Fallen Earth team has announced that the Alpha County update has been delayed and moved to Thursday, July 7th. Alpha County was originally planned to deploy today but some IT/technical issues, the update was moved to Thursday.
Massively has revealed that Fallen Earth will be going 'freemium' with the tenure of GamersFirst. This comes with little surprise as it was announced last month that GamersFirst was taking over the hardware side for Fallen Earth. According to the announcement, the core development team at Icarus will remain intact and development of the game should continue seamlessly.
