Plans for a new melee combat system.

There was an Everquest developer's chat hosted last night (11/24/03)  that addressed the issue pertaining to all the melee combat players of Sony Online Entertainment's (SOE) popular and successful MMORPG, Everquest. Many players felt that there just wasn't enough to do as a melee character, others felt that they were falling behind in combat compared to their magic using counterparts. Once again though, SOE has proven that it's dedicated to the community and has come through with a plan that many melee players in Everquest will likely enjoy.

According to a summary on the official Everquest website, melee characters will be able to "sense" an opening in their opponent's defense, allowing them to make a special attack or combat move. This opening will not be available for very long, so the melee character must strike before the opening closes. As the character's use these openings, their endurance (a new attribute for special combat moves) increases, likely allowing stronger combat moves or the ability to perform multiple combat moves in a single battle or a series of multiple battles. Melee characters will be able to find tomes scattered throughout Norrath (the world Everquest takes place in) that will teach them these melee special moves. Hybrid characters, such as rangers and paladins, will also have a limited endurance (less then pure melee characters) to perform special moves.

This is most definitely an exciting development for Everquest. It will probably be on the test server shortly. You can read more at the official Everquest website:
