All About Incursions

"The Sansha's Nation is seriously pissed and doesn't care about politics; trust us, you would be quite mad as well if you were stuck living with giant spikes on your head 'n' shoulders." So starts the latest blog at the EVE Online site from CCP Ytterbium. In the blog, details about precisely what incursions are and how players are affected by them are detailed. Incursions are detailed from system wide effects to how to counter the Sansha.


Tyrannis v1.2 Arrives

EVE Online: Tyrannis has been updated to v1.2 with a laundry list of changes to the UI, bug fixes, API improvements, inventory system changes and other bug fixes. The full list for patch 1.2 is available on the EVE Online site.


Server Maintenance Reduced

According to the latest EVE Online developer blog from CCP Hunter, the daily server downtime since launch has been approaching an hour. However, beginning November 1st, the daily server downtime and maintenance time will be reduced to half that, thirty minutes. Daily server maintenance is necessary to keep the database structure in good working order.


What Happened to the UI?

"OH GOD CCP WHAT ARE YOU DOING AAARGH" is how CCP Zulu starts the discussion in the latest EVE Online developer diary on the official site. In case you've not logged in for a couple of weeks, a patch released recently seems to have had...problems, problems that Zulu addresses in the blog post.


Incursion's Icing on the Cake

In a new developer blog at the official EVE Online site, CCP Chronotis, the team outlines some of the terrific changes that most players will welcome with open arms. Among those changes are: Tech II ammo enhancements; rocket 'power ups' to make them more effective; Faction ships in the market; Fighter Bomber lag addressed and fixed.


Freeing Up the Keyboard

In a new blog post on the official EVE Online site, CCP Optimal discusses upcoming changes to the way shortcuts are to be mapped in the next Tranquility update. Players will now have the option to place a shortcut on any key on the keyboard. In addition, mouse keys will be included in shortcut mapping and shortcuts are neatly categorized in the 'esc' menu.


Planetary Interaction

The official EVE developer blog has been updated by a new team member, CCP Omen. In his debut post, Omen discusses his role in working on Planetary Interaction. Planetary Interaction encompasses many aspects including making planets look good up close and the CCP team has a lot in store for EVE: Incursion.


Commissioned Officer Box Edition Announced

EVE Online developers have announced the imminent release of a new boxed edition of the game called the Commissioned Officer Edition. The new box version offers players an in-game item called the Cerebral Accelerator, which is a military-grade implant that significantly increases a new pilot's skill development.


Check Your Graphics Card

In a new blog post on the official EVE Online site, CCP Zulu fires a shot over the bow of players' graphics cards by announcing that ShaderModel 3.0 support will be required to play the game at some point in the first half of 2011. To help players assess whether or not their cards meet the standard, devs have created a small tool to run.


Incursion Mass Test

CCP Games has announced the Incursion mass test scheduled for Thursday, October 7th. Devs want players to come in and do their worst. Devs not only want players to try out the Incursion dungeons but they want feedback on the end rewards, difficulty, good aspects and what could be improved.


The New Character Creator

When EVE: Incursion launches, the team will be rolling out the new art and models for NPCs and player characters. Players will have the opportunity to recreate their avatars when the update deploys. As devs admit, character art is one of the few parts of the game that has remained as it was on the game's launch in 2003. CCP has created unique models for each bloodline,race and gender, along with new hairstyles and clothes.


Team BFF's Winter Plans

EVE Online's Team Best Friends Forever has big plans for players for winter 2010. In fact, they're going to be giving players the stars, literally in a way. In a new blog post on the official site, CCP 'Soundwave' talks about some of those plans including bringing new content 'on a massive scale' to PvE players. They don't want to just give players a few dungeons to explore. They want to give constellations, new systems and new funcationality too!


Incursion Coming in November

CCP has announced that the next expansion for EVE Online will arrive in November 2010. Called "Incursion", the expansion will feature escalating attacks of the deadly Sansha's Nation, hardware upgrades, software improvements, game and fleet battle performance enhancements, and improvements to EVEGate as well.


The API Trilogy

The EVE Online team has a lot of new information about optimizations to the game's API servers for players with a technical bent. Among other things, the team will be contacting developers to correct bad server calls rather than running a wholesale blacklisting of offending servers. Additionally, the team will be deleting old request logs in an effort to streamline things. In between, CCP has a few other ideas.


Noctis Ship Revealed

CCP Games has revealed the newest ship in the EVE Online fleet. Called the 'Noctis', the ship is a dedicated salvager. Devs have released a great screenshot showing off the base stats and a bit of eye candy for the Noctis. Check it out!
