EVE Online's Team Security Details Recent Ban Wave & Work to Stop 'Illicit ISK' Sales
The first EVE Online security report for 2019 has been published. In it, the development team lays out its case for a recent action that saw over 600 accounts permanently banned as a result of 'modified clients, also known as client hacking'. In addition, Team Security is working with Business Development and the Legal department to try to stamp out "advertising and sales of illicit ISK".
A recent focus has been working together with ebay to remove illicit sales from their platform. This is always an ongoing process, but so far, we’ve managed to clean up slightly more than 500 instances of ISK, asset and character sales.
We’ve also been working to continue taking down illicit VK and facebook groups too and are still working on sanitising both platforms as best as possible with their support.
In the future, Team Security will be working to find ways to stop "alpha characters that are competent for botting activities". One of the ways they are exploring is adding "a few features behind a requirement to have an Omega character".
