Battlestate Games, developers behind Escape from Tarkov, have confirmed there will be no playable female characters in the game because of “game lore” and the “huge amount of work needed with animations.”
The remark comes via Twitter with the team stating,

Specifically, the remark about animation work sounds extremely familiar to one Ubisoft made in 2014 when asked why there were no female assassins planned for Assassin’s Creed Unity,
“It's double the animations, it's double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets. Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work."
Of course, we know that their next game, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, had Evie as a playable character. Future Assassin’s Creed games also included the ability to play as Aya and Kassandra.
