All-New Character, Ain, And What He's All About

Hey MMORPG! GM’s Moshup and Fenix here with the lowdown on the launch of Elsword’s all new character Ain; going live today!

Moshup:

Before we get into the particulars and very soul of what makes this angelic revolutionary tick, we wanted to let you guys and girls know just how excited we are about this character launch. For the first time in KOG history, we’re launching Ain within a week of his launch on the home server in Korea. Basically, he’s completely unknown and untested, and Ain is shaking things up around the world as we speak.

Let’s get at it. Ain is a strikingly attractive and enigmatic playable character with a purpose and presence that transcends the heroic undertakings of our beloved El Search Party. From a design perspective, inspiration came in the form of medieval German military saints; angelic clerics if you will. Down to the names of his cast/skills, his combat evocations channel the lexicon of ancient German tenet. However, the similarities end there…

Eons back, Ain was sent by the Goddess to descend upon Elrios and the Tree of El. War between the denizens of Elrios was in full swing; prompting the great explosion. This explosion tore through the veil of existence in its entirety, sending Ain reeling through time. Present Day: Standing before the El Search party, Ain introduces himself as a priest serving the Goddess, an angelic figure of uncertain power and an unknown motive… yet he was wholly unfettered by the demonic insurgence that’s gripped the land. Ain offers to help them find the stolen El Shard.

Though kind and tolerant of the wiles of Elrios, it’s apparent that he practices magic at a higher level than that seen in Elrios. He uses a pendulum as a medium, and plays to entirely different battles by summoning and projecting weapons from the God's Realm.

Intro, design, story and sneak peek of Lore noted, I’m going to turn Ain over to GM Fenix for a dress down of Ain’s strat and combat.

Fenix:

Let’s cut to the chase. Ain is a male caster, he is by no means an ape of the charming young Magician, Aisha. Unlike Aisha, Ain doesn’t need to keep enemies at bay with his magic. Instead, Ain, with the will of temporal thaumaturgy, keeps his opponents right where he wants them, and that’s wherever he decides they need to be.

That being said, chasing down his opponents is the least of Ain’s concerns. Enemies that run too far might find themselves right back where they started… over and over and over again.

Ain is all about controlling his opponent’s position by restricting their options. For example, by casting “Fantasiegebilde Speer”, Ain constructs crystalized spears where he stands which will stop and deal damage to enemies who try to cross them.

The crippling “Fessel Heilig” is every fleeing enemy’s worst nightmare. “Fessel Heilig” launches an orb which creates a link between itself and enemies hit by the orb. For a 20 second duration, enemies that run too far from the orb will be forcibly pulled back, sustaining big damage in the process.

Ain has an all new, special system which allows him to change his attack method with two completely different modes:

  • Cycle Mode allows Ain to access to his skills faster by lowering the cooldown and MP cost of all his skills. Additionally, it also endows Ain with the ability to repeatedly dash through the air, at lightning speed, and break out of enemy combos at half the cost.
  • Creation Mode enhances all of Ain’s combos and commands. This gives him the ability to deal immense damage by infusing his attacks with heavenly firepower.

To summarize, Cycle Mode is all about utility while Creation Mode is all about dishing out damage.

However, there’s a catch. As powerful as these modes may seem, players must fill their resource bar (aka mana bar) through combat (giving and taking damage). Once full, you can hit the “v” key to toggle between the 2 modes. It’s true that he can become insanely powerful, but you have to get there first.

To sum up Ain succinctly, he’s is a tanky, chrono-mancer control caster. He’s got some awesome maneuverability and intercept skills, and a penchant for in-your-face melee. However, he’s not all GG easy.

Here’s a simple Pro/Con breakdown:

Pros:

  • Access to a plethora of long ranged projectiles
  • Incredibly mobile
  • Incredibly tanky
  • Great buffer for allies

Cons:

  • Has a slow start due to his modes requiring combat to be built up and activated
  • More focused on dealing burst damage with little access to long combos
  • Not waifu

As well, Ain will be receiving his first Job Line; another first for an Elsword character launch. Players will not only be able to enjoy a new character, they get to fully experience and play through one of 3 paths to Ain’s end game.

That’s all we have for today guys and girls. As always, it’s absolutely awesome to be featured on MMORPG.com. Thanks for the nod, and make sure to tune in for Ainmageddon. The time is now!

The hype is real. Come play Ain. Play Elsword. Play your Manga.
