Elite Dangerous

The Elite: Dangerous Facebook page has been updated with a brief note to let players know that The Commanders update (v2.3) will be ready for deployment by "the weekend ending April 16th". Players can use "Holo-Me" to create their avatars and give themselves a visual representation in the game.

Elite: Dangerous players have been Commanders for quite awhile, but now they can get a literal look at themselves on the PTR with the arrival of Commanders 2.3. Players will be able to utilize a new creator interface to give their Commander just the right look. In addition, when flying about, an avatar will also be displayed. Players can choose from preset Commanders or choose to customize it further.

Frontier has announced that the stand-alone version of Elite Dangerous: Arena has been pulled from the Frontier Store, Steam and the XBox Store. The decision was made after looking at metrics and discovering that most players play directly from the Elite: Dangerous in-game client. Though originally released as a stand-alone, the number of additional players in Arena did not increase.

SpiderMind Games has started its KickStarter project to bring a robust tabletop RPG based on Elite: Dangerous to the world. KickStarter funds will be used to fund production and publication of a core manual and four supplements to get players started on galactic domination. Elite: Dangerous RPG will use a D10 skill based system with players starting with a basic ship that can progress throughout the campaign.

Executive Producer Michael Brookes has taken to the Elite: Dangerous forum to let players know that the late Carrie Fisher, best known for her portrayal of Leia Organa in the Star Wars movies, will be memorialized in the next update. A new outpost called "Fisher's Rest" will be added in patch 2.3 when it is released.

Frontier Developments has announced that Elite: Dangerous will be heading to PlayStation 4 in Q2 2017. The PS4 version will come complete with the Horizons season pass and custom PS4 features including touch navigation, extra hotkey controls, fast headlook' and will also come with PlayStation 4 Pro support.

No one should go gently into the dark night alone as one Elite: Dangerous player found out recently. CMDR Macedonica traveled to the far reaches of space, finding out too late that he did not have enough fuel to make return journey. He believed that self-destruct was the only way out of the situation, but decided to post on the game's official forums to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Frontier Developments has announced that its next Elite: Dangerous content expansion, The Guardians, will be launching on Tuesday, October 25th. This also brings v1.7 online for all players. The Guaradians (v2.2) will become available to all players owning the Horizons expansion or the Commander Deluxe edition and brings "ship-launched fighters, the Beluga liner, VIPs, passengers, alien archaeology, volcanism, and much more" into Elite: Dangerous.

Elite: Dangerous PC players can now check out the beta for v2.2. Players with beta access will be able to participate in fighter-ship battles, ferry others around on passenger missions in the Beluga liner, check out the new station interiors and use the improved route planner and much more.

Elite: Dangerous players eager to try out the Guardians content expansion will be happy to hear that v2.2 will be entering beta testing beginning on September 20th. Players will beta access can take part in fighter-ship battles, head out on passenger missions in the Beluga liner, enjoy better station interiors, use an improved route planner and much more.

A new feature is coming to Elite: Dangerous that allows players to take on "passenger missions". During these special missions, players can pick up a passenger contract, load up the passengers and transport them to another starport. Considered 'simple work', the rewards for taking on such missions can be lucrative. There is even a special luxury liner ship, the Beluga, that can be used for this purpose.

Frontier Developments has cancelled this year's $100k Elite: Dangerous PvP tournament due to some planned features not having yet been implemented. In lieu of the cash reward tournament, however, a non-cash alternative called The Icarus Cup will be taking place this year.

From today through July 11th, interested fans can check out the Elite: Dangerous multiplayer Arena mode for free. The client can be downloaded from Steam or from the Elite: Dangerous site.

Frontier Developments has announced that the second portion of the Elite: Dangerous - Horizons expansion has been deployed. Called "The Engineers", new content includes the Engineers faction that players will want to gain reputation with in order to unlock ship upgrades; new crafted customization modules to make weapons more powerful; the new mission board that brings personal quest lines into play.

The Elite: Dangerous site has been updated with the news that the Horizons expansion, including both The Engineers and Planetary Landings updates, will be released for XBox One players on June 3, 2016. Players can upgrade their game for $29.99 or packaged with the XBox One Commander Edition for $59.99.
