What's in Store for Tamriel in 2018?

By Josh Hay on December 06, 2017 | Columns | 0

With 2017 coming to a close, often as gamers we look to the future of our favorite MMORPG or game in general. There are a lot of wishes and hopes I have for 2018 in Elder Scrolls Online. There will be no certain order of like things I want the most and things I want the least, just a general rundown of things I would love to see in future content release and possible expansions. Let’s begin, shall we?

I would love to see more quality of life improvements to the game. There are still constant problems with the infinite loading screen which they did address finally. There are other bugs and quirky things that need to be fixed. Performance needs to be addressed specifically in PvP zones, there are still many complaints of massive FPS drops, along with people getting FPS drops in most major cities. I don’t have a lot of these problems but I know a lot other people including guild mates have these issues. It’s nothing new either for people who have been playing for a long time. Maybe monthly quality of life improvements would suffice? I mean, I’m sure they already have a schedule planned but…

High Quality cash shop items: Before I get to involved in this one, I know some people loathe the cash shop which I can understand but I tend to enjoy what Zenimax puts out in their shop and with the crowns I get from my subscription I often find myself saving up for a mount or waiting for something “good looking” to come out. For those of you who are like me, I definitely would love to see higher quality in the cash shop. I’m not a fan of the loot boxes injected into the game but I would love to see more skins and cosmetic items. I know there has been a long debate over cash shop prices, I’m not here to debate that, but if they are going to charge a pretty penny for some items, they better be good. (I’m looking at you, Brenton Hero Armor…)

Content Galore: As many of us would like, more content. I am completely fine with how the release schedule went for 2017, I think I would like to see more diverse content though. I love DLC content like our latest one, “Clockwork City” but to me and a lot of other people it was more story focused and wasn’t nearly as lengthy as others. I would like to see more of a mix or maybe even combination, you know? I would like to see a mixture of PvE and PvP DLCs though. I also think we will need another expansion just like we had Morrowind, and for all intents and purposes Zenimax seems poised to announce what 2018 will hold soon. I don’t know exactly what I would like to see, but I would like to see another class, or at least some more skill lines or weapons for existing classes.

I believe with every release, the game gets that much better. ESO is not perfect, but I have a lot of faith in Zenimax and their ability to make this game better as time progresses. I know with every release my play time of Elder Scrolls Online goes up. I think mostly I am looking for more quality than anything. And that goes into the debate of quality vs quantity and I am more than happy with having more quality content than content that is pushed out half baked. For those of you who currently play, what would you like 2018 to hold for this game and for those of you who need a reason to come back. What would it take for you to come back?

Before I wrap up this up, there is something else I would like to see come in 2018. I would love to join more guilds. It’s been a long debate whether or not this game should have an auction house or not. Currently I am in four trading guilds and my one “main” guild. Even though I still get what I need/want on a decent amount of time, I definitely still feel the need to join more trading guilds to be able to access more items. Yes, we have the guild banks and stores but I still don’t think they are as efficient as an auction house. What are your all’s opinion on this? Are you satisfied with the system in place or would you like to see it tuned up?

Again, I feel the future looks extremely bright for Elder Scrolls Online. These are just things I personally would like to see be done to the game. I know a lot of people want another expansion like Morrowind. I know that I do as well. I know the Warden still has mixed reactions but the class is getting better. I’ve talked about balance patches in the past and I think that sort of goes with the quality of life improvements to the game. I really want to know what you all would like to see in the game. Let’s hope for some great content in 2018, shall we?
