Blizzard Suing Valve Over Trademark

According to a pair of legal filings, it appears that Blizzard is suing Valve to prevent it from trademarking the DOTA name. Blizzard claims that the DOTA name has been closely aligned with the Warcraft series for the past seven years. Defense of the Ancients was originally created as a mod for Warcraft III.


Valve on Beta Invites: "Fret not, it's coming!"

Valve recently updated the official DOTA 2 blog with the unveiling of the Alchemist, some community news, and an update for those who have been biting their nails off in anticipation of a beta invite.


Coming Sooner Than Expected

The DOTA 2 blog has been updated with the news that developers are listening to player feedback about wanting to play the game as soon as possible rather than to have devs stick to a lengthy beta and adjustment phase.

Newell: Beta Begins After Gamescom, Launching in 2012

Speaking to the folks at Eurogamer, Valve head honcho Gabe Newell has revealed that DOTA 2 will begin an invitation-only beta following the conclusion of the Gamescom tournament, and will move on from there towards a public beta. Newell also revealed that DOTA 2 will not make the widely believed 2011 release date, stating that he "doesn't think it will be shipped until next year."
