Part V of The Becoming™: The Trials of Nuada Airgetlám is behind us, and Nuada is firmly set on the road to recovery. He has made a new friend in the Dvergr Miach, son of Dian the Smith. For those of you who are familiar with some of the tales of Nuada, both Miach and Dian Cécht played key roles in his saga. While I’ve changed these around a little bit, Miach should be still considered one of the most skilled crafters in the world, like he was previously portrayed.

Even though Part V didn’t take place in The Depths™, there were still a number of interesting revelations in it (besides the usual film references/puns from movies such as The Princess Bride and Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins). First, I introduced the idea that Balor could be sucking some of the life force out of Nuada and his victims in addition to the spider-sword. People on the forums speculated that this could be a game balance mechanism to help regulate ownership/control of The Depths, and they would be right. As I talked about during the Kickstarter and beyond, this place is alive, and it needs to change up its diet every so often. After all, how many times a week can you eat Arthurians before you get bored and cranky?

Nuada also discovered how badly things went for his people under the rule of Bres. The capital of the Tuatha Dé Danann lies deserted, and while all of it isn’t in ruins, it is going to be a while before the city returns to its former glory. For those who are wondering if the Arthurians and the Vikings will also have their own Nuada-like tale, all I’ll say for now is that things in this sliver of time are not good anywhere in the world.

There was also another mention of the “One True City” (name subject to change). Its origin and the role it plays for the three Realms are crucial elements of the game’s back-story. As much as I would like to write the tale now, I have other, more pressing items on my to-do list, but am hopeful I’ll be able to find some time over the next month to start working on it.

While there were a number of other things to talk about, given what is going to happen in Parts VI and VII, I think I should cut this piece a little short and say that it’s time for the Nuada’s roller-coaster ride to continue.

Enjoy!
