Dear MMO Enthusiasts,
My name is Ryan, known in the Project Gorgon world as “Silvonis”, and I am a member of the Project Gorgon Development team. My official title is Producer, but in a small development team I am involved in several aspects of development. I wanted to take a moment to write an open letter to discuss the future of Project Gorgon.
For those who may be hearing about Project Gorgon for the first time, let me give you a brief description about what we are all about. Project Gorgon is a 3D fantasy MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) that features an immersive experience that allows the player to forge their own path through exploration and discovery. We won't be guiding you through a world on rails, and as a result there are many hidden secrets awaiting discovery. Project Gorgon also features an ambitious skill based leveling system that bucks the current trend of pre-determined classes, thus allowing the player to combine skills in order to create a truly unique playing experience.
Project Gorgon uses the Unity 5 engine along with a custom designed multiplayer networking solution. When people play Project Gorgon, we want you to feel as if you’re immersed in a whole new virtual world and instead of just graphics and excessive backstory we are designing the game with dozens of gameplay features that make you feel like you’re really there, interacting with the world. Speaking of graphics, we are in early alpha…cut us some slack! Joking aside, the main focus of Project Gorgon isn’t shiny ultra-realistic graphics but we do plan on improving them significantly as development continues.
The development team is anchored by Project Gorgon creator Eric Heimburg and his wife Sandra Powers. The duo has over a decade of experience working in the world of MMO development, having worked as Senior and Lead Engineer, Developer, Designer, and Producer on successful games such as Asheron’s Call and Everquest 2.
During the last several months, we have had numerous supporters reach out to us and ask us how they could support Project Gorgon. We have given careful consideration of all the options and we have decided that we don’t want a player experience that is held back by pay-gates cleverly disguised as a free to play title. We want all players to have access to the entire experience, thus Project Gorgon is going to be a buy-to-play game with an optional VIP subscription. In order to help realize the full potential that we see for Project Gorgon, we are happy to announce that we have launched a small scale Kickstarter campaign with updated rewards and goals that will help Project Gorgon reach its full potential.
This Kickstarter campaign will be different from our previous attempts and it will be different from many Kickstarter campaigns that you’ve seen in the past. You won’t be funding just an idea, but a living game that you can play right away. We have already been greenlit on Steam and we are working to complete full Steam integration. The Kickstarter campaign will allow us to significantly improve Project Gorgon by allowing us to hire additional outside help in order to improve art and other vital game functions. We have a lot of great ideas that put a unique twist on game features like Guild Functionality, Player/Guild Housing and Mounts.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to visit our website, www.ProjectGorgon.com, and to download and play an early alpha version of Project Gorgon right now. It is currently completely free to play and will remain that way throughout our Kickstarter campaign.
We care deeply about our community and we openly encourage our players to share their thoughts with us and the community. We listen, and in the past we have made dozens of changes based on player feedback. This is an opportunity for anyone interested to get involved early and help shape the experience from the ground up.
We hope that you will enjoy what Project Gorgon has to offer and will choose to support us through our Kickstarter campaign. We would love to hear from everyone and look forward to seeing everyone in game!
