UPDATE: Microtransactions Incoming? Activision Says NO -

UPDATE:, after reading VG247's 'insider' information about the possibility of ammo microtransactions (see below) has received a tersely worded reply from Activision that simply rebuts the contention by saying, "We're not doing that."

According to inside sources cited by, Bungie is preparing to begin selling ammo packs for real world cash in Destiny. If true, this confirms the long-standing rumor that microtransactions would indeed become a part the game.

The most sought after ammo pack by far is Heavy Ammo Synthesis, as Heavy is essential for high-level PvE activities such as raiding. There are currently only three ways to acquire Heavy packs: you can buy them from the Tower gunsmith, Banshee-44, for 950 Glimmer, Destiny’s “free” in-game currency; exotic vendor Xur sells packs of three for one Strange Coin; and Variks, the Reef’s Prison of Elders handler, sells them for 250 Glimmer and a pack of Ether Seeds.

With the time needed to acquire the requisite resources, selling ammo packs that include the Heavy Ammo Synthesis will shave off that requirement essentially allowing players to have constant access to it.
