For the Second Time in Two Weeks, Bungie Admits to Development Blunders

For the Second Time in Two Weeks, Bungie Admits to Development Blunders - MMORPG.com

For the second time in two weeks, Bungie has admitted that it is damaging its reputation with the Destiny 2 community. First it was the squelching of end-game experience gains, now it is the recent issue of locking activities behind a DLC pay wall. The Power Level requirements for Trials of the Nine, Prestige Leviathan, and Prestige Nightfall were raised sufficiently to exclude players without the Curse of Osiris DLC. "These plans", admits Bungie, "aren't working."

We’ve heard from the community that both of these plans aren’t working. The Prestige Raid was a novel experience that players value, even if they don’t own Curse of Osiris, and it was a mistake to move that experience out of reach. Throughout the lifetime of the Destiny Franchise, Trials has always required that players owned the latest Expansion. However, for Destiny 2, Trials of The Nine launched as part of the main game, so it’s not right for us to remove access to it.

To make matters worse, our team overlooked the fact that both of these mistakes disabled Trophies and Achievements for Destiny 2. This was an unacceptable lapse on our part, and we can understand the frustration it has created.

A hotfix will be applied this week that will bring about the following:

  • Prestige Leviathan will be Power 300 and rewards will drop down to match. This brings The Prestige achievement and trophy to all and allows the completion of the final step for the Legend of Acrius Exotic shotgun
  • Trials of the Nine will only require the Curse of Osiris DLC when that map is used. All other weeks it will be available to all. This brings the "Lest Ye Be Judged" achievement and trophy to all. Seasonal rewards that launched with CoO will require the DLC to acquire
  • The Prestige Nightfall will keep the 330 and will continue to require the Curse of Osiris DLC
  • Normal Nightfall will not require CoO unless that map is used
  • Time limited events will be open to all
    • Iron Banner and Faction Rally rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.
    • New Seasonal Rewards that launch with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.
