How to get Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2

One of the driving forces behind your time in Destiny 2 will be getting exotic weapons and armor in order to take on the game’s highest-level content (like the new Leviathan Raid that launched today). But to do that, you’re going to need to stumble across tons of Exotic Engrams, and that’s no small task. Where do I get Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2? What content do you do for the best chance at getting an exotic engram? Read on, Guardian.

The first thing to know is that getting an Exotic Engram is not a guarantee. Like any loot-grind, it’s going to be RNG and luck that get you through. That said, the loot in Destiny 2 is far more plentiful than in D1, and if there’s already a team beating the Leviathan raid, they’re geared enough to do so.

So what are the best ways to get an Exotic Engram to drop?

Yellow-Health Enemies

The smallest chance of getting one is from these guys. Don’t count on it, but they have a very small chance to drop an Exotic Engram for you each time you kill one. They’re also key to getting loot chests, which can also contain the engrams.

The Crucible:

Not the best way either, but each Crucible match has a chance to reward you with an Exotic Engram. Give it a shot, if PVP is your thing. Matches go fast too, so though the chances might be slim, you may get lucky.

Strikes

The Dungeons of Destiny 1 and 2, Strikes are 3-person content, taking about 30 minutes each, and the big boss at the end always has good loot. Will it be an Exotic Engram? You never know, but it’s always worth trying as this is one of the best ways to get geared up.

Public Events

The open world content in Destiny 2 has been upped quite a bit, and the regularly recurring Public Events are some of the most fun content out there. Players in the open world converge on these, not just for the high level of action and challenge, but also for the loot. The end of each event, successful or not, has a loot chest, and Exotics are always possible.

Xur and Trading in the Unwanted Exotics

Now the not so fun part. Like Diablo 3, you’re going to get Exotics you don’t want or need out of your Engrams. The good thing is you can dismantle them to get 10 Legendary Shards, which can be used to upgrade your lower tier gear (great for twinking up alts). But more importantly, when Xur begins showing up this week, you can trade in your shards to get new and rare exotics from him.
