This past week we caught up with Tyler Sigman and Chris Bourassa from Darkest Dunegon. The game came out in early access this past February and has been doing extremely well on Steam. The games media has been on fire this week. The topic, not for the first time, has been Steam Early Access – or more precisely, Peter Molyneux, but we’ll get to that later. Amidst all the chaos of broken promises and players rightfully feeling taken for a ride, we’ve had the chance to play a game that does Early Access right: Red Hook Studios’ Darkest Dungeon. It’s a game with fresh ideas and a sense of style.
With something like 30 hours under my belt in Darkest Dungeon at this point, there are definitely some classes I tend to favor more than others. Face it, some just get the job done better and aren’t as vulnerable to the sorts of chaos you’re sure to find while adventuring in the game.

At its most basic level, Darkest Dungeon is a Gothic themed side-scrolling turn-based RPG that emphasizes the psychological stresses of dungeon crawling. Our second look at Darkest Dungeon this year comes from PAX Prime. In the last 5 months the team has been building in a lot of character options and new dungeons. Darkest Dungeon is an old school turn-based RPG where your party suffers from the effects of stress the deeper and darker the dungeon becomes. It really impressed us at PAX, especially coming from such a small Indie group of developers. We caught up with the guys from Red Hook to talk about the game and their vision.
