Wayback Wednesday with DAOC

Last week on Wayback Wednesday we had our monthly installment of Dark Age of Camelot and finally made it to Molvik on our Albion characters. Sorry for the week delay but Talal had to do an EA press event and talk about some other game that is coming out soon. Maybe you have heard of it. Ultima Forever? In this episode we were joined by Associate Producer Talal Saad, and Game Designer John Thornhill.

Starting last month Talal is no longer playing with the group but spending all of his time focusing on answering viewer questions. Due to the recent announcement of the Playstation 4 and the fact that DAoC is now hosted in the cloud on Amazon’s servers I asked Talal if we could possibly see DAoC make its way to the console. The answer to that was no. Now on from the silly questions to some of the more serious topics.

We talked about some of the more pressing issues. One of which being the delay in patch 1.114. Talal had good news and announced that 1.114 would be up on the Pendragon (test) server the next day. After that the priority would be to work on Mordred transfers to Ywain. Following that they will shift their focus on reworking the reenlistment campaign. We could possibly expect to see the new reenlistment campaign in about two months. Due to the recent server instability not only were these changes pushed but the Valentine’s day holiday was missed. Unfortunately they will not be able to do this seasonal event this year even at a later date. Talal and John also fielded questions ranging from what they liked most about working on DAoC to why in progress patch notes are not posted and everything in between. Make sure to check out the episode below for all the answers.

Congratulations to all of the winners in the stream of the 30 day game time codes. Liquidbible, Rakos101, Schezza, Hayzl, and Syvus. Make sure you to check your e-mail associated with your twitch account. The codes have been mailed to you. Also congratulations to Mashingbuttons. Last month I asked, “What is your favorite memory in DAoC.” They had the random winning answer of, “The first thing I think is my first toon I played. I was leveling him on alb, near cotswold, killing some mobs and go to the prydwen castle for some reasons... then THE MUSIC. That prydwen music. I will never forget it lol. This is my favorite moment : the exploration of a new world.” You can see all of the responses here. For next month’s episode I will give away a 30 day time card to one random reader who answers the question, “What is your favorite realm and why?” Please leave all of your responses in the comments section below.

I would like to take a minute and point out the hard work that is being done by some of the community members. First a big thank you to Joe (aka Card), and Sophie (aka Eaderbraca) for their continued help gathering community questions for this event. I would also like to point out a fansite Tom aka Eatew is working on DAoCDB.com. If you have not seen it yet he has a lot of information there, including an episode list of all the DAoC Wayback Wednesdays with very detailed transcripts.

For this week’s Wayback Wednesday we will take a look at Asheron’s Call for the first time. I will be joined by the Turbine devleopers and you can see all the action on our live stream channel here mmorpg.com/streams.cfm at 9:30 pm EDT. As always, thanks for watching!
