ArtCraft's Thomas "Blixtev" Blair has penned another in a series of Crowfall articles designed to introduce fans and players to various mechanics in the game. In this latest post, Blair discusses the way that death and all its attendant mechanics will work in the game.
On death, players will "disconnect" from the character's body. They can either resurrect in a temple or hover above the corpse to be resurrected or to simply watch the outcome of the battle. The caveat to the latter is, however, that bodies are lootable -- how much can be taken will depend on the ruleset of the world on which the fight takes place.
Releasing the spirit sends it to the closest temple where players can pray to have the body retrieved and to have at least some gear returned (again based on ruleset). Campaign rulesets also determine how long the body can be looted and the minimum time that prayer is required.
Players can also switch to a different vessel by heading to an archetype statue around the temple in order to enter a character creation process to create a new vessel or to take one out of the Spirit Bank.
