Command an Army in This Unique MMO

Conqueror's Blade recently had its first closed beta. In development for five years from Booming Games and NetEase, it's a unique take on the MMO. In short, you're controlling not only your own character, but an entire army of soldiers as well. We talked with the folks behind the game to find out more about it...

MMORPG: For the uninitiated, what IS Conqueror's Blade? An MMO, An action game, a strategy? A simulation? A mix of all of this?

Booming Games: Conqueror's Blade is a Massive Multiplayer Online War Game; we are defining a brand-new game genre here.

MMORPG: How long have you been working on it? Where did the idea come from?

Booming Games: It has been 5 years since we initially started this project. The initial idea came from our producer, who is a big fan of ancient war games but couldn’t find a game that truly recreated that experience. Our goal is for players to experience what it was like to be a real General in the past: not only kill enemies in close combat, but to also command their legion.

MMORPG: What do you think will draw MMORPG players to CB?

Booming Games: We think MMORPG players are one of the core audiences for the game. Actually, Conqueror’s Blade really appeals to MMORPG players because our main game mode of Kingdom War corresponds to “Guild VS Guild” battles in normal MMORPG games, which is the favorite part for most MMORPG players.

MMORPG: What is a player's average day like in the game?

Booming Games: Players can choose to engage in match PVP with other players, or play some PVE games. Of course, during the adventure in the Big World, players will encounter random events/missions: it all depends on what players like to do.

MMORPG: Can you play it solo, or do you need to go in with a large group?

Booming Games: According to our design, players can choose from various game modes like Death Match, PVE and PVP, but the most interesting part is in the game community, which is a core part of an online game.

MMORPG: What sort of non-battle activities are there?

Booming Games: Currently battles are the main activity in the game, but we have lots of non-battle activities like collecting loot and producing troops, all of which contribute to battles. Additionally, there are some mini-games like the Maze in the Hero’s city available in this beta test.

MMORPG: What do you hope to learn from the Closed Beta tests?

Booming Games: First of all, we’re opening the Big World system to players, so we want to balance the system according to players’ in-game behavior and feedback from this beta test. Then, we want to see how the battles go in different countries: how players collaborate with each other, compete with each other, etc.—this is the most exciting part!

MMORPG: Will the game be on Steam or any other platform?

Booming Games: Currently, the game is only planned for a PC release, but we are excited about bringing the game to console, and we hope to make that happen soon.
