It’s summer. You know what that means! It’s way too hot to go outside, and the perfect time to play games all day (at least, that’s what I tell myself). The problem? There’s just not a whole lot I find that I want to play. So, that begs the question – what are you waiting for? In the world of MMOs, specifically, I’m going to rattle off what’s on my “do want” list, and hope you’ll join in me in needlessly wishing for games that aren’t here yet.
A Trip Back to Azeroth?
Not going to lie, I am not the market for WoW Classic, but next week’s 8.2 patch has me very interested in trying the latest expansion out once more. It sounds like the devs are working hard to salvage BfA’s systems, while adding a ton of new content in this patch. My only worry is that it’ll be all we get until the next expansion. Unless of course you do want to play Classic, then there’s always that in September. At least the first stop on my list is only a week away.

Astellia
This September also brings Astellia, the latest MMO to make its way from KR to NA and EU, and like any MMORPG fan, I’ve got to give it a go. The first beta for the game is next week, but only pre-order folks are likely to get in, though I’m hoping we at MMORPG.com get more than a few keys to hand out too. It’s clear that BE&A is trying hard to Westernize this one as much as they can, including the lifting of the gender lock in place in KR.

Final Fantasy XIV
I always try to love FFXIV, but it never sticks. My oldest characters feel too old to get used to after a long period away and starting fresh is just a massive slog. I’m going to give it a go for the new expansion, but I don’t expect it’ll last too long. FFXIV is one of those games I love for everything it is, but can’t stick with because as a usually-solo player, the combat is just so mind-numbingly boring.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep
Destiny 2 has only been getting better, and I’m anxious for Shadowkeep to give a slew of new content to chew on. This latest season, with the incredibly hard but rewarding Menagerie is worth visiting, but I’m not the kind to grind my head against a wall with random pugs over and over. I’m more interested in how the game will expand from Shadowkeep and beyond, especially once it becomes F2P.

Eyes On: Anthem, Torchlight Frontiers, Ashes of Creation, Fallout 76, and more
It feels like I’m always waiting on games, then playing them for a week or two, then waiting more. That’s the life I lead, I guess. Aside from the major ones I mentioned above, I’m curious to see what will become of Anthem, how Torchlight Frontiers will progress, and when Ashes of Creation’s first big Alpha test for the MMO will land. I’m also really excited to try Wastlanders in FO76, though I know I’m in the minority there. Heck, even The Division 2 still begs me to finish its main story to prep for the coming expansions.
But just once, I’d like a game to really suck me in for months on end, the way Blizzard did almost 15 years ago.
