Things I Wish I Knew Before I Played Blade & Soul

Achievements Change Stats

This may be a bit controversial, but achievements can change your characters’ stats. For instance, doing the Blackram dungeon 10 times gives your character an additional 400 hitpoints. Another is once you are level 15+ winning ten 1v1 PvP arena matches gives you an additional 70 defense.

Dailies Make Money

Money is actually pretty hard to come by in Blade & Soul unless you’re good at playing the Marketplace (AH). However, once you unlock the PVP dailies and end-game PVE dailies, they can reward you pretty well in silver and gold. In the lower levels, the dailies for level appropriate quest hubs also give good money and items.  If you’re not into that, the crafting and transmutation or cosmetic items sell for the most on the Market. This was true in beta, and probably will be true at launch.

Not the best UI for pretty screen taking...

Want to Hide the UI?

Blade & Soul is really pretty, even three years since it launched. But the UI often clutters most of the screen unless you’ve got an Ultra-Wide resolution.  But Ctrl+X hides the UI, and you can completely scale down and move each individual piece of the UI to your heart’s content in the options menu.

F7 for Dungeon Finder

Early on in B&S you’ll be presented with dungeons and bosses you won’t be able to complete solo (at least not easily). The Dungeon and PVP systems of Blade & Soul are cross-server, and work really well to find groups for whatever content you’re looking to complete. The PVP and Dungeon finders are separate “lobbies”, but both work across the game’s servers to pull from every available player.

Arena PVP is Equalized

NCSOFT and Team Bloodlust are very serious about the competitive nature and eSports prospects for their arena PVP. Don’t be afraid to face someone of higher level than you. Once you hit level 15 and Arena PVP becomes available, every match you play in the arena is against someone statistically your equal… whether you have the same level of skill is another story.

Apropos of nothing, meet Old Man Cho.

Clan Level is Money-Based

Unlike most games, your clan won’t level simply based on doing quests and completing activities. In order to progress, you must also have enough money to do so. There’s a clan vault you can ask members to donate to, and since some of the Clan systems’ best options come at higher ranks, you may wish to require donations daily or weekly.

These are just 11 of the most crucial things I can think of, but I’m sure there are more tips and tricks out there to be offered. Be sure to add your own in the comments, and if you’re really into Blade & Soul, you may wish to watch the Anime, which is in its original Japanese subtitled format on Hulu.com. Worth watching!
