Four Things We Want from Marvel Heroes in 2015

Marvel Heroes Omega - Columns

We re-reviewed the game earlier this year, bumping our score up from our initial 5.6 to an 8.2, reflecting all the improvements we found in the game. Still, there are a number of issues that have presented since then and today we’re offering up our list of improvements we’d like to see Gazillion make over the course of the next year.Posted Dec 24, 2014 by Michael Bitton

The Troubling State of Rogue

Hearthstone - Columns

Just about anything you could do with Rogue since Naxxramas, you’d be better served doing with the game’s other classes. And now with Goblins vs. Gnomes, things appear to have gotten worse.Posted Dec 17, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Overwhelmed, Yet Excited for Goblins vs. Gnomes

Hearthstone - Columns

Will I be able to adapt once Blizzard launches Goblins vs. Gnomes next week? I’m not sure. I’ve already felt overwhelmed by all the new cards that have been steadily revealed since the expansion was announced at BlizzCon, but I also can’t help but be excited for all the new possibilities. The Hits and Misses of Dragon Age: Inquisition Multiplayer

Dragon Age: Inquisition - Columns

With the game now out and players filling up the multiplayer servers, how does Inquisition’s co-op game stack up? We’ll break down some of the hits and misses.Posted Nov 19, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Blizzard’s Moving On to Smaller and Better Things

General - Columns

I feel this doubling of efforts towards World of Warcraft is all you’re going to see on the MMO front for the foreseeable future. So, what now? What does it all mean for Blizzard? Well, it seems to me that the studio is looking to move on to smaller and better things.Posted Nov 12, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Why Losing Dawngate is a Shame

Dawngate - Columns

Yesterday, EA announced that Dawngate, its first foray into the MOBA genre, would be shutting down in 90 days. I sometimes find myself surprised at how cynical I’ve become in my years writing about videogames, but this news honestly came as a surprise to me. Was I naïve to think that Dawngate had a snowball’s chance in hell at survival? Posted Nov 5, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Hits and Misses of Advance Pack 2

Marvel Heroes Omega - Columns

Gazillion recently unveiled Advance Pack 2 for Marvel Heroes; these are characters players can look forward to adding to their roster in 2015. Not only is the 2015 roster a bit underwhelming, but the pack also replaced bonus Fortune Cards with boosts. Posted Oct 1, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Build Your Own Adventure with Hand of Fate

General - Previews

I saw and played a ton of games at this year’s PAX Prime, but the only title that really dug its hooks into me at the show was a completely unexpected gem I found in the indie area called Hand of Fate. In development by Australian studio Defiant Development, Hand of Fate is best described as a tabletop card game come to life mixed in with roguelike elements. Posted Sep 10, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Why Dragon Age: Inquisition Co-Op Will Be Awesome

General - Columns

I’m more confident at this point that Dragon Age: Inquisition’s multiplayer will be awesome than I am about the single player game. Inquisition seems to hit the right notes in terms of enhancing the series’ combat without overdoing it and stripping things away like Dragon Age II did, and this bodes well for a multiplayer component that focuses squarely on the game’s combat systems. Sneaking Into Invisible, Inc. Early Access

General - Previews

I bought my way into Invisible, Inc. a couple of months ago, but it honestly felt too rough to explore back then. That all changed yesterday when Klei Entertainment launched Early Access on Steam with a brand new update that polished things up. Posted Aug 20, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Naxxramas: The Wait is Killing Me!

Hearthstone - Columns

Truth be told, I hadn’t played Hearthstone in a couple of months due to the game’s stagnating meta (Zoo, anyone?), but Naxxramas represented an opportunity to shake all of that up, so I dove right back in last week with the Arachnid Quarter. I have to say I am really enjoying Blizzard’s approach to expanding the game’s card set with adventure modes. It’s a neat combination of new cards and new content. But there is one problem: the wait is killing me!Posted Jul 30, 2014 by Michael Bitton

MOBA Fatigue

General - Columns

The onslaught of MOBAs from every developer out there has resulted in more than a few moans and groans from gamers and press alike. MOBA fatigue seems to have set in. We’re at a point now that articles questioning the need for a new MOBA regularly come immediately alongside their announcements. Posted Jul 16, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Lightning Strikes Twice with Storm

Marvel Heroes Omega - Columns

Gazillion has steadily undertaken the task of reviewing and reworking each and every hero in Marvel Heroes over the past year, with priority given to the starter characters players choose from when entering the game. This massive slate of reviews is nearing completion and the latest review to hit was for everyone’s favorite weather witch: Storm.Posted Jul 2, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Project Zomboid -- A Steam Summer Sale Gem

General - Columns

A bit of peer pressure from my group of friends got me to break down and pick up 7 Days to Die during the sale, but I did not last long with that title. What it did do for me, however, is give me a bit of an itch for a zombie game experience, and that’s when I noticed Project Zomboid on sale for $10. Posted Jun 26, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Marvel Heroes Team Ups We'd Like to See

General - Columns

Gazillion has a 2014 Team Up Advance Pack for sale in Marvel Heroes that allows players to pre-purchase the main slate of team-ups coming this year so we more or less know which team-ups we’ll be able to acquire this year (aside from surprises, of course). With that in mind, I’d like to share a couple of team-ups I’d like to see Gaz add to Marvel Heroes in the future. Feel free to share your own shortlist in the comments.Posted Jun 18, 2014 by Michael Bitton

My Best and Worst of E3 2014

General - Columns

Another year, another E3, but this time I’m not at the show. Like the rest of you, I’ve been fixated on every stream and piece of information I can find. Overall, I can say this year’s E3 is turning out to be an OK show, but nothing altogether spectacular. Posted Jun 11, 2014 by Michael Bitton

My First Foray Into Fantasy Sports with LCS

General - Columns

I never got fantasy sports. I saw the posts come across my feed all the time and watched as my friends became insufferable once their fantasy football leagues picked up, but I just never saw the appeal. It all seemed a bit silly. Well, now I think I’ve become that insufferable friend – only with something far nerdier: fantasy League of Legends.Posted May 21, 2014 by Michael Bitton

Marvel and the Unfortunate State of ‘Social Games’

General - Columns

Even with the F2P model now popular in the West, social game developers continue to take the consumer hostile approach with their games, monetizing anything they possibly can. The games themselves, on the other hand, have been evolving. Games like Playdom’s Marvel Avengers Alliance are actually well crafted experiences full of content and nuanced gameplay. Thank You, City of Heroes

City of Heroes - Columns

The 10th anniversary of City of Heroes’ release came and went with not much more than a whisper. The game is dead and so the usual jubilation and of course, events to go along with such a momentous occasion, were nowhere to be found. It’s a bittersweet thing to reflect upon. There just wasn’t anything like City of Heroes, and to this day, there still isn’t.Posted Apr 30, 2014 by Michael Bitton

The Hearthstone of MOBAs

Heroes of the Storm - Columns

If you haven’t played Heroes before but you have MOBA experience, it’s pretty easy to look at some of the things Blizzard is doing with Heroes and say they’re dumbing things down to reach an even broader audience. I’ll remind you again, the same was said for Hearthstone, and clearly there is more to that story. Posted Apr 23, 2014 by Michael Bitton
