If you have ever gone into a movie theater, and thought to yourself, “man I wish I had this kind of a screen and sound system at home,” well you are in luck. The Royole Moon 3D Mobile Theater is just for you. This headset was designed with you in mind. At first glance, it may seem like a virtual reality headset for gaming, but it is so much more than a gaming peripheral. You can listen to music with this device, you can watch movies, and play games too. Whatever you can do on a normal computer, then you can do it with this device. Let’s dig deeper into the wonder that is Royole Moon.
When you go into a movie theater for a 3D movie you need to get a pair of special glasses. Let me tell you, those are a thing of the past with this headset. I watched pieces of Star Wars Rogue One and Jurassic Park World, and felt like I was in the movies. The 3D effects were seamless and didn’t need any special attachments or programs to use. 3D isn’t the only thing you can use the headset for though, you can still watch your normal 2D movies and other loaded media with the Moon. This allows you to take full freedom in your movie watching experience.
The Royole Moon sports a giant curved and adjustable display for full immersion into your gaming, or multimedia experiences. Coming in with a standard resolution of 1920 by 1080 for each eye, it matches most normal PC monitor settings that I personally use making it great for playing games on the computer. The display is made up of two AMOLED screens delivering full 1080 HD goodness. Using the headset with these settings also makes you feel like you are looking at a screen that is about 800 inches. That is what the company was going for and that is how I feel when watching movies or playing games like God of War 3 Remastered on PS4 using the Moon. The response times are also amazingly fast coming in at a blistering 0.01ms. The image quality is a very good reason to use this with your games or your movies and the best thing is that there is no lag. I played PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with this set and had no delay whatsoever.
When playing games online, the main thing you want is to hear the game with no noise distractions in the background, to play with clear visibility, and the highest possible graphics you can. The Moon covers both of these things for you. Do note, however, that this device isn’t a VR headset. It connects to your GPU with an HDMI cable for seamless gameplay – think of it more like a self-enclosed set of monitors.
The latter I discussed a bit in the display section, however, the audio is exciting as well. Active noise canceling headphones make up a huge portion of the Moon’s theater setup and have the ability to reduce up to 92% of the noise you hear in the background with a reduction rate of 22dB. Goodbye kids, and dogs, and other noises that you find upsetting while watching television, movies, and playing your games with friends. Engineered with sound quality in mind, the Moon is able to provide the highest quality audio possible, from low bass to high treble. You will think you are right there as the music is being played.
What can I say about the design? It is crafted like a gaming headset with an attached screen like a virtual reality device. What is so amazing about the design of the Moon is the ability to fold it up, and take it on the go with you. It is perfect for long flights, or even long car rides (for those not driving, of course, drive safely everyone). It packs easily into a fabric carrying bag that comes inside the box. With the battery life available per charge, you are set for at least five hours of play or watch time. Another interesting feature is the touchpad controls in the earpiece. This means you don’t need any separate device to control your viewing experience. Controlling the screens is as simple as tapping your head. Of course, since this device has extra cables for converting to cell phones, or computers with HDMI cables, it also takes the place of the main screen you use for your viewing purposes.
The built-in WI-FI adds another feature that most people can’t live without. Having the ability to connect to a WI-FI network gives you the ability to browse the net, or watch shows and movies through programs like Netflix or Hulu. You will be able to stream when you want, where you want. If you don’t want to stream then that’s fine too. The Royole Moon comes with 32GB of internal flash storage so that you can preload movies and audio directly into the device. Doing this will make your trips that much easier without having to search for what you want to do.
The last piece of design to mention would have to be the Moon OS, and it really is the first thing because without it then we wouldn’t be sitting here talking about how great this device works. It is very simple to scroll through the OS itself, and it seems to be set up just like an older Xbox One screen or Windows 8 from a few years ago, but it works a lot smoother. Easily check out your settings, battery health, and other features right on the main screen. The Moon also has a new feature called the Royole Lounge, which gives you the ability to purchase and watch movies directly through its services. This also makes it easier to watch movies on the go.
When you are looking at something new and exciting in the tech world, you look for devices like this that will give you the freedom to do whatever you want to with it. Traveling, or sitting at your computer is upgraded by simply having this device with you. It comes in at a hefty $599.99 USD, and may not be feasible to use for low budget gamers. I would see this as a luxury item that you can get if you have the disposable income. With that being said, the Royole Moon 3D Mobile Theater is everything that you want from a piece of technology which is designed to make your viewing and gaming experience that much more memorable. Couple with noise canceling earpieces and 3D viewing, the Moon takes it to the next stage for wearable peripherals.
