MMO Launch Spotlight | Dive into Medieval Fantasy with This Week's MMO Releases

The weeks feel like they’ve been flying buy in 2024, and another week means another series of MMO launches. While we have a mobile game ported to Steam this week, we also see a couple fantasy PC games make their debut.

Destiny Online

In no way is Destiny Online affiliated with Destiny the popular shooter. Instead, this 2.5D pet-capturing MMO by Destiny10 is a throwback to a game from 2010 developed by Ingle Games Ltd., which was actually a rebrand of Legend of Golden Plume from 2008. Anyways – the game hasn’t aged particularly well, but at least it’s up and running again for fans of the original that want to get back in for some 2.5D action.

A brief synopsis from Steam details a robust pet system, a marriage system, crafting, and 5 playable classes. Released to Steam on March 30th, it appears there’s a fairly small, but active, Facebook community if you’re a former player looking for a little nostalgia, and want to chat with fellow Destiny Online fans.

Firestone: Online Idle RPG

Mobile game Firestone has been ported to Steam on April 1st, and no, this is not a joke. Developed by Holyday Studios, this Idle RPG has already garnered a substantial number of mostly positive reviews on the platform, despite recent trends shifting into decidedly mixed.

As you can expect from an Idle Mobile game this is more pseudo MMO than an actual MMO, as you won’t experience massive battles, but rather battle against a massive number of players in arenas in PvP and join guilds and chat strategy with your teammates. You’ll also pit yourself against others to rank in the top spot in PvP leaderboards, complete quests, and do it all without needing to actively participate.

I’ve added it to the list primarily because it launched as an MMO on Steam, but unlike games like newly released Idle game AFK Journey, Firestone doesn’t appear to have much in the way of online grouping. If you’re an idle gamer fan, this might be worth a shot.

Quest Master’s Realm

Quest Master’s Realm released into Early Access on Steam on April 2nd and expects to be within the Early Access period for only about 6 months.  The realtime-action MMORPG is definitely an Indie passion project from Blue Lightning Software and appears to have been in development for at least 2 years at this point.

While there is limited information on Steam , their website has a wealth of information on the game with an in-depth Quest Master’s guide. In the guide, the team starts from the top with skill sets and the combat system, but drills down loot rarity and drop chances. The Early Access release looks like it’s coinciding with an IndieGoGo campaign that has yet to begin. Quest Master’s Realm appears to have some of the basics that most MMORPG’s have aside from combat, such as crafting, questing, and PvP, but the official site also notes that you’ll be battling for Cubitz, though I’m not entirely sure what those are. The game is currently less than 7 dollars USD, so if you want to try it out for yourself, you’ll have to shell out a little cash.

Reign of Guilds

Medieval fantasy MMORPG Reign of Guilds has finally released into Early Access on April 4th! As a game that we’ve been following closely with coverage and our Indie MMO Spotlight articles, we’re glad to see that Atlant Games has finally launched their title. However, to get into the game, you’re going to have to lay out about $34.00 USD, and that’s before you purchase any of the bundles, which is offered in a pack for $169.97 USD. Luckily the game is Buy 2 Play so there won’t be any necessary recurring subscriptions to continue playing.

Reign of Guilds is a dark fantasy, where action combat takes place in first-person. From my previous tests, combat can be complicated, with enemies requiring you to be on your toes, and sometimes swap weapons depending on what you’re fighting. As you can imagine, Guild gameplay is a primary focus, with castle and territory control playing a huge part in end game. If you’re looking for a new fantasy game to soak up some time, Reign of Guilds is available now, and intends to be in Early Access for about a year.
