This week the MMO launches were somewhat light, but for those looking for a seafaring good time, there are two games out there that made the list. Let’s jump into this week’s Launch Spotlight.
Age of Water
If you’re a fan of games like Skull and Bones and Sea of Thieves then you might be excited to jump into Age of Water by Gaijin Games. Fresh out of beta and now in Early Access, Age of Water will have players embark on a post-apocalyptic journey where they’re going to accumulate resources to build out their watercrafts. However, it won’t be so easy, as the wide open world is full of pirates and players who may impede your progress.
The game has a wide array of features like building your own floating base, teaming up with players to take on quests, and seizing other boats – when you’re not crafting or upgrading the ones you already have. Age of Water is available on Steam, PS5 and Xbox X|S for 29.99, and is showing a mixed review score on Steam. Some of the bad reviews claim lag, and balancing I battles and costs to maintain your ships. Good reviews claim that the game is fun, lacks Pay 2 Win microtransactions outside of the Gold Edition, and players enjoyed the various ways they could build their ships. The buy in is mid on this one, but for the right sailor this could hold your attention for a while.
World of Warships Legends PvP (Mobile)
World of Warships: Legends dropped a mobile version of their game last month, and I must have missed it, even if we did announce the release. For those unfamiliar with WoWS:L the game follows the core loop of World of Warships but was built for consoles, and originally released back in 2019. It was only last month that Wargaming released the game globally on mobile.
There are some differences with this version, such as faster paced battles and faster progression. The battles aren’t really “MMO” territory either, hitting about 18 or so opponents in PvP. The game is luckily cross platform and cross progression, so you can pick it up on console or your favorite mobile device and play for free now. It’s available on Xbox X|S, Playstation 4/5, Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store now.
