It's Not All Perfect

I’m sure I am not alone in this: Whenever I play a game I think to myself as I play, what would I change or what would I do differently? I’ve done this countless of times with Elder Scrolls Online. By no means, I’m not a game designer or a professional developer but I always think of how I could enjoy the game more or change something I dislike. In this article, I would like to discuss with you all what I would change or tweak. As much as I do love the game, nothing is ever perfect.

A lot of these topics, you have probably heard me discuss before or the community as a whole. The majority of these directly deal with how I enjoy the game and some don’t directly impact my overall enjoyment. Let’s talk about one of the bigger ones: Cash Shop. As many of you know, Elder Scrolls Online does have an optional subscription and a cash shop. Even though I have my subscription current since launch, my dislike for what goes into the cash shop hasn’t really changed. We have loot boxes; a ton of cosmetics features and some items that people could deem pay to win. I’m not going into that debate because I honestly don’t think it’s true.

I will say the majority of the things in the cash shop I believe to be overpriced. Now, again all of this stuff is purely optional. The DLCs are optional, cosmetics are optional, nothing you really “need”. Some people could say, you need the DLC, I can see their argument, I just tell everyone to buy the bundle and wait for sales. Anyways, the reason I believe some of the items are overpriced is that of the quality. For example, some of the mount prices are absurd and for what you pay for is not really fair.

As of writing this article, the “limited time offer” is Fang Lang Courser. Which is currently on sale for 3,000 crowns, which is 24.99. The standard edition of Summerset is 29.99. Think about that for a second and let that sink in. Also, for 3,000 crowns I could get two DLCs. Now, someone different than me may find that mount worth that much money but for me, I honestly find that absurd. Let’s be honest ZoS, you could do way better than that. I mean, I love you dearly and all but this is a bit much.

On the subject of quality, I will admit I own quite a few wardrobe items. You will find me mostly using my polymorph though. I haven’t found anything better that has been released lately that beats it and is worth the price. A lot of this also comes down to what we find “Is it worth it or not”. I wish they would release better-looking cosmetics then I could say “Hey, it’s worth that much of a price” instead of saying “What were they smoking?” I know that sounds harsh, and ultimately, they do have a business to run but I don’t really expect it from them. I expect that out of other types of games…

I could go on and on about the cash shop but I don’t want to go too deep into it. I might go a little crazy, well more than I already am. Does anyone else feel this way or think even worse of the Crown Store? Do you agree or disagree?

In-game, there are some things in the game that I wish would drastically change. As excited I am for the new skill line and the “newish” Warden, I wish they would overhaul the older classes. I’m not saying a complete overall is needed but a fresh touch up would be appreciated. I also would love to see more skill lines down the road. As much as I like Vampirism and being a Werewolf, I often think they are strong enough and I would love to see them touched up/buffed in the near future. I’ve been content with the same skills and the same rotations for about a year now.

Even though I hate change, I would love to see that overhaul happen. Yeah, I would have to find some new rotations and things like that but it would add another of challenge and breathe some new life into the game for me personally. I know a lot of people would like to see this happen as well and I think there would be some outrage at first, everyone would come out and probably hate on the changes but then come to terms with them and eventually love them. I know if I saw my class being changed tomorrow my first thought would be “How dare you change my beloved!” but I would eventually calm down and come to love the changes and see how my new rotations would work out.

I often talk about change because it’s a never-ending conversation. Change is constant and sometimes changes are needed. I know a lot of people would love to see combat changed but I’m one of the few people who enjoy the current combat system. I really wish they would change up the crown store but it is what it is. Maybe down the road they will change some of the prices and go forward with lower prices. I know a lot of people dislike games with optional sub and cash shop. How do you feel about it?

Maybe I am just overthinking it and maybe it’s not as big of a deal that I am making it out to be. I do however wish down the road things will change for the better. Besides Combat, what is your ESO pet peeve? What is your pet peeves for MMORPGs in general? Till next time! Cheers!
