Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, it’s all about Halloween in the Indie MMO Universe. Multiple indie MMOs will be holding events to celebrate the holiday, and just in case that isn’t enough of a treat, I also put together a Halloween event guide that covers the major MMOs (shameless plug). In addition to holiday events, Foxhole heads to the seas, Ember Sword goes deep, and Palia opened up dedicated EU servers. Plenty of other stuff is also going on, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

More boating on the BitCraft Twitter this week.

Broken Ranks

It is time for Forefathers’ Eve 2023 in Broken Ranks. The event only lasts 30 hours, starting on November 3rd at noon ET. During the event, visit the Lyurist to get started on your quest.

Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore

In case you missed it, the Coreborn livestream this week had a sneak peek at the Dark is the Night content.

Corepunk is back in the news this week with another First Look test phase. Phase 2 will be November 4-5, and approximately 100 community members will be invited to the test.

Ember Sword

Landholders and badge carriers had an early start at the Ultra Deep Dungeon, but everyone is able to check out Ember Sword’s playtest through October 29th. Just in case you don’t get a chance to play, you can check out a recent dev run of the Ultra Deep dungeon below.

If you are interested in exactly how Ember Sword’s new engine could affect the MMORPG genre, check out Steven’s interview with Joris Huijbregts, Chief Development Officer and one of the founders of Bright Start Studio.

Eternal Tombs

A new video for Eternal Tombs gives us a first look at raid footage.

Eterspire had a new update go live this week. Update 19.0 added multiple new features, including the addition of three classes to replace the Mastery System, new weapons for each of the new classes, and much more.

Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore

The Pumpkin Festival has arrived along with Patch 2.7

Grab your life vest because Naval Warfare is live! You can find the release notes here, and community member I Saw Bear is back with another video walkthrough of the new content.

Fractured Online

November 8th will be the day that Fractured Online returns to Steam. The blog post with the announcement says the team had to rebuild a large piece of the backend while they continued to improve many aspects of the MMO as they prepared for the return. It also states that they have all been working unpaid for several months. It seems they are wearing this as a badge of honor to show their dedication to the project, but I see the lack of funds as a grim omen to the future of Fractured Online.

Genfanad takes a look back at the progress the team made during the month of October in their latest blog post.

Havenhold was the topic of the Developer Spotlight on the r/mmorpg subreddit this week.

If you want to check out the next build for Hordes.io, you can sign up for the PTR Test that will be held on November 4th.

Mist Legacy

This year’s Halloween event will start on October 30th. If you haven’t completed the quest from last year, you have until the reset to finish it.

There’s lots of news to catch up on this week. Patch .171 went live on Thursday, adding new dedicated servers for the EU. Palia is now also available on the Epic Games Store. The team also gave a sort of short-term roadmap in its October Dev Update.

Prosperous Universe

The German translation is finally complete. You can see what else is up with Prosperous Universe in Development Log #407.

Quinfall’s Closed Beta Test has been slated for January 30, 2024. The test will be available through Steam.

What would Halloween be if there wasn’t at least one MMO that added some vampires into the mix? A new devblog details the vampires that inhabit the Forsaken Mountain.

Realm of the Mad God

Update is live, bringing with it new missions and a new cosmetic feature.

Villagers & Heroes

Patch 5.14 is live. The patch adds new Fabled Gear to loot and also resolved an issue that Android players have been experiencing.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands

Wild Terra 2’s Halloween event has begun. You can find out all the details in the Update 2.2.353 Changelog.

Wurm Online

Halloween is back in Wurm Online. The event runs through November 5th.

Zenith: The Last City

There isn’t a true Halloween event going on in Zenith, but anyone who logs in through October 31st will receive a special Trick-or-Treat title.
