Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, Palia and several other MMOs start their holiday events, The Quinfall sets an Early Access release date, and Steven Weber explores Ember Sword’s Early Access. Plenty of other stuff is also going on, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Aether Story

After a long silence, a new devblog was posted to Discord this week, and the news isn’t great. Although progress on Aether Story continues, it appears development is in disarray. Three people have left the team, leaving just one person developing the game. The playable Alpha hasn’t been updated in at least a year, and the next version is still in the planning stages.

Broken Ranks

Citing the decision to “take the extra time to get it right” instead of pushing things out the door on time, the year-end patch has been delayed to January 14, 2025. I wish more dev teams would make this choice. The announcement post also mentions that a new roadmap would be out in early 2025.

Corepunk

The team struggled all week to find the cause of the server crashes, and the servers were finally brought back up on Saturday. The server was rolled back to the last stable version, with updates with the latest fixes coming soon.

Dragon and Home

You can enjoy some Dragon and Home Christmas events through January 2. There is a daily login event and aChristmas Style Building Contest, along with a couple other special events.

Ember Sword

Ember Sword entered Early Access on December 2, and our very own Steven Weber has been taking the Web3 MMO for a test drive. You can see his initial thoughts in his latest edition of MMONFT.

Eternal Tombs

Triune Studios released a new video that highlights Monolith Orbs.

Loftia

Loftia has already hit over 20,000 wishlists on Steam. With goal rewards every 10,000 wishlists, you can now download a Wishlist Tree Wallpaper and listen to the New Loftian Soundtrack.

Monsters & Memories

M&M held a stress test on Saturday. The purpose of the test was to see how well the netcode holds up as the number of active players goes up.

Once Human

A new roadmap for 2025 has been posted, including a mobile launch date of April 2025. You also have until December 24 2:59am ET to enter the Once Human The Wanderer Statue Sweepstakes

Open Perpetuum Project

Patch 33.3 has gone live. The patch includes improvements to drone mechanics, new items, and QoL updates.

Palia

The Holiday Homestead (Patch 0.187) went live on December 17.

Profane

Profane held a test this week. Originally running from Wednesday through Friday, the test was extended until Sunday. Participants were required to sign an NDA, so we’ll have to wait for word from the devs on whether the test was a success or not.

Prosperous Universe

Development Log #464 has been posted. Instead of giving an end-of-year update, the log invited you to a State of the Universe Livestream. You can watch the replay below.

The Quinfall

A new gameplay video announced that The Quinfall will enter Steam Early Access on January 24, 2025. I have to admit that I haven’t put much faith in The Qunifall, but the video has me wondering if I should check it out.

Ravendawn

Patch 2.0.4 went live on Wednesday. The update includes new creature spawns, updated dynamic events, and enhanced party hunting mechanics.

Realm of the Mad God

Oryxmas returned to RotMG with Update 5.5.0.0. The update includes a new biome just for the event.

Reign of Guilds

Update 0.95.5 went live on Thursday. Along with some technical fixes, the update includes a new currency market, market improvements, and changes to parcels.

Scars of Honor

The team’s last livestream of the year was held on Friday. During the stream, the devs took a look back at 2024 before sharing a glimpse of what is to come in 2025.

Screeps

After dealing with repercussions of being a Russian-based development team since the Russia-Ukrane war broke out, the team has relocated to Armenia and has posted a development update to the Screeps Steam page.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands

Update 2.2.377 is live, bringing the Christmas Event to Wild Terra 2

Wurm Online

Wurm Online’s Christmas Event is live. The event runs through January 11.
