Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, The Day Before gets delisted from Steam, Gloria Victis announced a release date, and several MMOs celebrate their anniversary. There’s plenty of other stuff going on as well, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

BitCraft

At least after BitCraft’s latest Twitter vignette, we know that the MMO isn’t going to be a gotta catch ‘em all kinda game.

Book of Travels

We saw a new BoT update land on Friday. The update notes have a bunch of fixes and minor changes, but nothing super exciting.

Broken Ranks

Along with a new anniversary trailer, Whitemoon gave us a glimpse of what’s to come for Broken Ranks in a new post this week. The team focused on implementing the maps and bosses from The Pride of Taern in 2022, and with that completed, they are moving on to new content. At the top of the list are a new instance for high-level players, epics 2.0, and gear reform.

Cinderstone Online

In Codevision’s latest blog post, the team explains the delay of Chapters 2 and 3 is due to the need to develop a new quest creation system. While the post explains away the delay and ends with a reminder that Founder Packs are still on sale, the team still didn’t give players a release date for the missing chapters.

The Cycle: Frontier

It looks like The Cycle: Frontier will be getting its own version of Tarkov’s Scav runs in Season 3. In the free loadout runs, players will be provided some random basic gear from one of the three factions. If you make it out alive, you get to keep the gear and anything else you find. The runs will be on a cooldown timer, so you’ll still have to risk some of your own gear on most of your adventures on Fortuna III.

Players can pick up the free Fortuna Survivor DLC pack on Steam and Epic Games Store. Available through February 7th, the pack includes a couple of cosmetic items and 250 Aurum.

The Day Before

Oh boy, what a week for The Day Before. Just a couple of weeks after the new trailer reveal during CES, The Day Before has been delisted from Steam due to a trademark claim. It was also initially stated that the release would again be delayed due to the trademark issues, this time to November 10, 2023. This was followed by an interview with IGN where the devs state the delay was already planned before the trademark dispute, even though the March 1st release was just re-confirmed in the gameplay trailer a couple of weeks ago.

Dreamworld

After another stellar week of development, DreamWorld’s weekly patch brings some lighting improvements, improved detection of mouse events, and the ability to press ESC to exit benches.

Ember Sword

Founder and CEO Mark Laursen made a new blog post to detail the team’s vision for the future of Ember Sword. After a short summary of Bright Star Studio’s past, Mark covers not only Ember Sword’s future but also discusses why Project SERIUS, the engine powering Ember Sword, could be a game changer for all web-based development.

Embers Adrift

Just ahead of its free weekend event, Embers Adrift received a new patch. The patch added new hair visuals and revamped the defense system.

Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore

A Q&A video was posted this week. In the video, Amar Duranovic, Game Director of Ethirial: Echoes of Yore, covers many of the questions asked by the Ethyrial Discord community.

Gloria Victis

After spending years in early access, Gloria Victis finally has a release date! With Weekly Update 349 bringing one of the last big changes before 1.0 - Guild Activity rewards if you were wondering - Black Eye Games has announced that version 1.0 will release on February 7th. A new release trailer featuring members of the community should be coming soon.

Profane

For anyone interested in the guild system that will be available in the upcoming Profane Alpha Test, a new tweet explains how the Altar will be a centerpiece of any guild territory.

Prosperous Universe

In Development Log #370, Michi covers the work being done to curb some of the space pirating that is going on in the game.

Realm of the Mad God

RotMG received a new launcher this week. The Into Shards and Pieces event is back and runs through February 7th, and there is also a new Q&A video starring Community Manager Acalos.

Scars of Honor

Episode 2 in the Ask Beast Burst video series was posted this week. Important questions like why the team chose to use Unity instead of UE4 or 5 and whether cash shop cosmetics will be earnable in-game are answered.

Starbase

If you missed the Starbase 2v2 tournament held last weekend, you can watch the action from Day 1 and Day 2 on the Starbase Twitch channel.

Tatsumeeko

The Weekly Dev Blog covers work being done on a new inventory system and artwork for The Slums and Meteor Site.

Zenith: The Last City

RamenVR has announced there will be a new minor patch before Zenith: The Last City launches on PlayStation VR2 in February. The patch will contain bug fixes, improved moderation, and new pets.
