Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, Nightingale makes its annual appearance at The Game Awards, Broken Ranks finds a way to turn Christmas into a PvP event, and Christmas events are as popular as ugly sweaters and Dirty Santa gifts. There’s plenty of other stuff going on as well, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Aether Story

Patch 0.7.8 was successfully deployed this week. Winter Fest 2022 is now live. You can find the full patch notes and Winter Fest Event details in the latest devblog post.

BitCraft

This week, BitCraft Twitter reminds us to eat your veggies.

Book of Travels

If you’re interested in the latest update (0.24.4), the change log is posted on the BoT Steam page.

Broken Ranks

While other MMOs celebrate the holiday season with a joyful event, Broken Ranks celebrates with an eternal 1v1 battle between Santa Claus and Old Father Winter. The event runs from December 23 through January 2. The NPC Old Year will be on the servers from January 2 through January 8 to open any remaining gifts and exchange event currency for gold or gifts.

Chimeraland

The Northmount map is now available for players to explore. Thursday’s maintenance also added the Howlhog evolve. The Howlhog evolves from the Hedgehog rat or a spiny ball.

The Cycle: Frontier

The Cycle: Frontier’s Creator Program is now accepting applications. You can find more information here. A new video from Creative Director, Dan Banefelt, highlights the team's biggest achievements in Season 2 and shows some of the content coming in Season 3. The devs are also holding a livestream on December 22nd on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam.

Dreamworld

In this week’s update, surface swimming was added, and swimming animations received improvements. Bats were added to caves as night mobs, and chat had some improvements.

Dual Universe

Update 1.2 will go live on December 13th. The update will add a tactical map to the piloting and gunner HUD, asteroids are receiving a rework, and Abandoned Wrecks are being added to the landmarks tab of the map. You can read all about the update here or watch the livestream on Monday, December 12th, on the DU Twitch channel.

Foxhole

Update 51 releases on Tuesday, December 13th. For information on what is coming in the update, you can watch a replay of the livestream on Foxhole YouTube.

Fractured Online

The Guardians of Nature Awaken update went live on Wednesday. Wildfolk can now shapeshift into their primal forms. You can find out all the details on shapeshifting along with the other patch notes here.

Gloria Victis

With a major update looming in the future (aka next week), GV didn’t receive an update this week. The dev team did announce a 5v5 tournament would be held on December 17th.

Hordes.io

We don’t normally get a lot of news about Hordes.io unless there’s a major update in the works. That wasn’t always the case. Back in the early days of development, dek (the creator) was active in discussion on the Hordes.io Discord. Dek has pledged to be more active on the server again, and has also started a new #dev-leaks channel to share screenshots of miscellaneous works in progress.

Mad World

More videos of creatures and biomes were posted this week. Head over to Mad World YouTube to check them out.

Margonem

Winter has arrived in Margonem, bringing with it a new Elite2 enemy named Zorg One-Eyed Baron.

Mist Legacy

Companions got several upgrades in this week’s patch. You can find the patch notes on the Mist Legacy Steam page.

Monsters & Memories

It’s dev update time for Monsters & Memories. Update 26 covers all the work done last month and shares a bunch of concept art.

Nightingale

I know you already saw it, but just in case you missed the new trailer shown during The Game Awards on Thursday, you can see it down below, and a follow-up post goes into more detail about the reveal. The search for content creators interested in exploiting exploring Nightingale is underway. You can sign up for the Creator Program here.

OrbusVR

The Plateau of Apophis Tweaks update (patch notes) is now live.

Profane

In the weekly Profane tweet thread, the devs take some time to discuss guilds. We get a first look at the guild creation UI, and changes being made for alpha are also discussed.

Prosperous Universe

Development Log #364 is all about the Prestige update. Well, Martin covers supporter perks and Nick reveals the results from the latest Name That Planet (spoiler, it’s now called Circa), but Michi talks about preparing for Prestige.

Ravendawn

Ravendawn will have Twitch Drops active for anyone watching streams during their Winter Break event. Ther rewards include a Beta Key and a four-tier Snowman.

Realm of the Mad God

The Seasonal Gratitude event results are in, and it looks like the community crushed all three objectives (no surprise there). The O3 event is live through December 12, and the first Leaderboard Event, Sulfurous Speed, is underway as well. You can read about all of these events in this blog post.

Starbase

If you missed the Starbase 2v2 tournament, you can watch the recap video.

Starkeepers

A new monthly Dev Update has been posted. In Update #6, Zazen Zhang, Art Directory for Starkeepers, talks about the new direction the team is taking in art style.

Tatsumeeko

The latest Tatsumeeko weekly blog post has been posted.

A Township Tale

Update 0.1.5 was released this week.

Villagers & Heroes

Season 5 of Raids began on Monday, December 5th. Secret Santa Gift Exchange signups are open, and you have until December 12th to register to participate. The 12 Days of X-mas Event started on Friday, December 9th, so you still have time to participate.

War of Dragnorox

A new dev update was posted this week. This time around, the devs talk about combat and the mount system.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands

If you’ve been wondering if Wild Terra 2: New Lands is worth playing, then you’re in luck. One of our writers, Kanishka Thakur, took some time to answer that very question. What was the verdict? You’ll have to read the article to find out.
