Indie MMO Spotlight: Summer Events Are On The Rise

Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, we saw a lot of activity from some of the quieter indie developers as summer patches and events were spotted everywhere. There’s plenty of other stuff going on as well, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Adventure Land

This week’s update added a new dynamic to Adventure Land - Hop Sickness (G.conditiions.hopsickness). From now on, any time you hop to a new server, your character will incur Hop Sickness, a stacking debuff that will reduce XP, Luck, gold, and damage output. You’ll now have to weigh the pros and cons of hopping to a new server for farming, events, or even switching to a different server to purchase something being sold by a vendor.

Archewood

It’s been a busy update week for Archewood, with 5 separate updates posted on the Archewood Discord. All the update notes can be found on the #updates channel, including multiple new creatures, updated loot tables, and new tutorial quests among other changes and fixes. Along with the flurry of updates, a post to the new #roadmap channel lists several more additions on the way, though no ETA is included.

BitCraft

We got another tweet this week showing off more Pre-Alpha footage of BitCraft. The clip showed off three separate outfits, hinting that there will be plenty of options available to customize your character’s look.

Book of Travels

Remember those Tech Blogs I’ve mentioned a couple of times? Well, a new post on the BoT Steam page puts all of that tech jargon into layman's terms - the team has been busy updating to a newer version of the Unity engine and made other performance improvements that should make BoT “feel” better.

Broken Ranks

In a follow-up to their TaernCon blog, Whitemoon Games posted a TaernCon 2022 highlight reel on YouTube.

Chimeraland

It has been just over a week since Chimeraland’s global launch. Several of the issues affecting the Steam version have already been resolved, and the latest update on July 22nd added a full-screen option for PC.

To celebrate the updates and the 1-week anniversary, there are multiple events going on now through August 3rd. You can find out all about them in this announcement.

The Cycle: Frontier

Another large patch (1.3.8) was released for The Cycle: Frontier this week. You can read the full patch notes on Reddit, but some major changes include lowering mission requirements for many PVP and PVE missions, improved matchmaking, weapon power tuning, and many bug fixes.

Dual Universe

Ask Aphelia Episode #10 is out, and this week the Q&A answers more questions about schematics, LUA improvements, and we find out whether the DU universe is infinite or has a boundary a player could eventually reach.

Farwoods

Farwoods often has player and developer-run events on the weekends, and due to the timing of their announcements (usually mid-week), it’s usually too late to mention them in the IMS. So this is just a reminder that if you want to join in on the roleplay fun, you might want to join the Farwoods Discord so that you get event announcements in a timely manner.

Foxhole

The Relic War is back. An annual event, the Relic War started on Tuesday, July 19th, and runs through August 9th. This year, there are 5 special Relic vehicles to build.

Fractured Online

The Fractured Online website received an update this week. The new landing page makes finding the latest news and lore easier and includes more information on the races and planets that make up the FO universe.

Genfanad

Genfanad got its first content update this week. Players will find a new druid colony and logger colony in the expanded northeast section of the map.

Gloria Victis

With the team working on two major projects - reshaping the world map and recording new animations for the game - there wasn’t a weekly update for Gloria Victis. Instead, this week’s blog post was used to announce a Discord AMA event and to shed some insight into the team’s use of a new mocap suit to speed up the creation of new character animations.

Legends of Aria

The presale of $ARIA tokens started this week. For anyone interested, there is a handy guide with step-by-step instructions on how to make your purchase.

Pixxelverse Online

Here’s a new entry for the Indie MMO Spotlight - Pixxelverse Online. An MMORPG/Social Platform hybrid, PO is being developed by a small team comprised of coders, musicians, and artists. You can find out more by visiting their website and joining their Discord Channel.

Profane

Earlier this year, the Profane team asked the community for help in naming an enormous sea creature. By combining two submissions, the whale-like creature now has a name: Bahut, Ancients of the Seas. With one name finalized, they now need help with naming a crab-like creature. Please help them out as their suggestions of Wandering Crab or Cob Crab just suck.

Prosperous Universe

In Development Log #344, Michi is hard at work on new features, Fabian shares a video of QoL enhancement to the commodity exchange orders screen, and Nick does all sorts of PR stuff.

Ravendawn

If you missed the Livestream Q&A on the 16th, you can watch it on YouTube. And for anyone with web design experience, Living Phoenix has an open position for a Website Designer.

Realm of the Mad God

While summer temperatures are soaring, RotMG is cooling down the Realms with the Sub Zero II Event. Running now through August 2nd, players who beat all the Ghost Kings will be able to take on Snowy the Frost God or collect an Ice Tomb Portal by killing the Permafrost Lord roaming the land.

Reign of Guilds

In a news post last week, the RoG devs announced they had moved into the polishing and optimization phase of the project. With more frequent patches, the PTR will be closed to the public because the Normal server will receive patches shortly after the PTR. The post also contained the patch notes for the most recent update, 0.86.064.

Scars of Honor

The Scars of Honor community discussion turns to Infernal Demons this week. Head to the forums and share your thoughts on molding this vile race's lore.

Star Sonata 2

Patch notes for the most recent update were posted on Thursday on the Star Sonata 2 Steam page.

Tatsumeeko

The Tatsumeeko weekly devblog was posted on the 19th. This week it covers Sea Caves art, marketplace props, and live 2D animations. The team is holding a meetup at the Tatsu Works main office on July 29th, and anyone in the Singapore area is welcome to register for the event. Lastly, the team is currently hiring for multiple positions.

Xsyon

A developer update was posted to the Xsyon forums this week. Work continues on the graphics update, but the next public update will be the War System which should go live before September.
