Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, Anvil Empires sneaks in a playtest, Eternal Tombs recaps 2024, and The Quinfall enters Steam Early Access. Plenty of other stuff is also going on, so let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Anvil Empires

Anvil Empires only gave a day's notice before starting a new Pre-Alpha Test this week. The test will remain online until Monday, January 27th, so you have a little bit of time to check it out before it is gone.

BitCraft

A video showcase full of Alpha 3 player-built settlements was posted this week. A second video featuring memorable roads will be coming soon.

Broken Ranks

With an uptick in bot usage, Broken Ranks secretly implemented a new bot detection system on January 14th. In the first five days of use, the team detected, double-checked, and manually banned over 50 accounts, some of which were at max level.

Broken Ranks also celebrated its third anniversary yesterday, Saturday, January 25th. A quick blog post, including the infographic below, recaps the previous year. To celebrate the occasion, any player that logged in during the previous 30 days will receive 7 days of premium account. If you want to use the celebration as a reason to check out Broken Ranks, you can also receive 7 days premium status by entering the code HVAR during registration.

City of Titans

There have been several development sneak peek videos posted to YouTube the last few days. My favorite is a video that shows off the implementation of an admittedly buggy traffic system. The video proves that no matter how much you hated the traffic system in Cyberpunk 2077, it could have been worse.

Corepunk

Corepunk shared a new blog post to update the community on what will be coming in the next content update. Players can expect a new PvE/PvP full-loot extraction dungeon, Prison Island. The Defender class will also be added to the MMO.

Ember Sword

Ember Sword has been validated and listed on the Magic Square App Store. For those unfamiliar with Magic Square, it is an app store similar to Google Play or the Apple Store, but it is exclusively for cryptocurrency-based apps. The validation process uses a community voting system and must achieve a 60% yes vote to become validated. Out of 2697 votes, Ember Sword received a 97% yes to 6% no vote.

Eternal Tombs

Eternal Tombs sent out its monthly newsletter and posted a 2024 recap video this week.

Nightingale

Nightingale published the Dev Bites 6: Unreal 5.4 Update video this week. The first update of 2025 shared plans for an engine upgrade, a new tileset, and improved customization.

Once Human

In-game customer support has been streamlined by merging the support portal and the feedback platform into a single button.

Version 1.4 was also released this week. Full of bug fixes, the new patch addressed many of the issues gathered through community feedback.

Palia

Patch 0.188, New Beginnings, went live this week. The patch introduces Zeki’s Loyalty Club, adds new decor, and brings back the Luna New Year Celebration.

Past Fate

Patch 0.5.0 is now live. Visual updates include improved lighting and new placements for unequipped weapons, while a balance pass for item and enemy stats and new points of interest are also mentioned in the patch notes.

Prosperous Universe

Michi introduces Bulk Buying in Development Log #467.

The Quinfall

The Quinfall entered Steam Early Access on Friday, January 24th. The MMO is currently sitting at a Mostly Negative review, with only 22% of its 1105 reviews being rated as positive.

Ravendawn

BattleEye will be integrated into Ravendawn, adding an additional layer of anti-cheat detection on top of the MMO’s current solution, Anybrain. BattlEye should be added in patch 2.0.5 and is considered an important component of the 2025 Roadmap, which should be dropping soon.

Scars of Honor

Scars of Honor will hold its January Live Development Update Stream on Thursday, January 30. The team will be revealing its 2025 roadmap during the stream, with a deep dive of every quarter of 2025.

Villagers & Heroes

Issue #33 of the Ardent Letter has been posted.
