Indie MMO Spotlight: Nice Developers, Passionate Bunnies, And A Shameful Plug

Happy Indie Sunday everyone! There was a big moment in the Indie MMO scene this week with the Early Access release of Book of Travels. It has the usual early access issues, but the Tiny MMO has a promising future. One of our writers here at MMORPG has already given us their first impressions, and I have to say I 100% agree with everything they said. Well, enough of my shameful plugs, let’s get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

City of Titans

MWM was back this week with the third installment of their Developer Interview series. This time around, we are introduced to Nathan “Red Warlock” Purkiss, lead environmental artist for city architecture and natural landscaping. That’s a long-winded way of saying he helps fill in the roads, foliage, buildings, and other structures of an area map. Just like an artist, he let pictures do most of the talking.

Corepunk

It’s been a couple of months since the disappointing news about delays in Corepunk’s development, but this week we were treated to a new gameplay video. And this isn’t one of those short montage videos where you only get two or three-second snips that don’t really show you what gameplay is like. No, this is almost 17 minutes of continuous 4-player PvE combat. Players even die and everything.

The Cycle: Frontier

With the classic version of The Cycle shutting down and The Cycle: Frontier currently in Closed Beta, developer Yager Development is showing some respect to their veteran players. Any content players unlocked or purchased in the classic version will carry over to the new version, and all purchases made in 2021 will be refunded and you still get to keep the items! You can check out all of the details on this classy move in Yager’s latest blog.

The Day Before

The Day Before Mega Event finally happened! I don’t know that I would call it a mega event, but there was a new gameplay trailer along with Fntastic announcing the release date of June 21, 2022. I personally think the clock ticked back one or two times too many.

Dual Universe

Tired of going solo in Dual Universe? Now you can use the Recruit A Friend program to not only get your buddies to join you, but you can earn free game time and other rewards when they purchase game time themselves. You can find all the details on the Recruit A Friend page.

Novaquark also published two more blogs on the recent LUA updates and other changes. There’s a lot to cover, so be sure to check out both Part 2 and Part 3. And here’s the link to Part 1 in case you missed it last week.

Ember Sword

The Land Sale and Community Badges that were supposed to go on sale a couple of weeks ago finally went on sale on Friday. Anyone who was granted a plot of land now has until October 29 to complete their purchase.

Foxhole

A while back, Siege Camp mentioned that the price of Foxhole was going to increase sometime this year. That sometime has now been identified, and anyone who wants to get into the battle for the current price has through October 19 to make their purchase. Starting on October 20, the new price will be $29.99.

Into The Echo

We haven’t heard too much about Into the Echo since its arrival to the Indie Spotlight a month ago, but this week we have a new piece of concept art for you. If you like what you see, head on over to the Into the Echo website to learn more about this time-travel MMO.

Mad World

Christina beat me to the punch with her update about Mad World’s upcoming third Alpha Test. You can sign up now on the Mad World site, but the Alpha doesn’t officially start until October 25.

Profane

Profane had its turn on the Developer Spotlight on the r/MMORPG subreddit this week. As always, the Developer Spotlight is a great read for anyone looking for more information on a specific MMO. And that doesn’t even count the entertaining discussion (aka haters vs. fanbois) in the comments.

INSANE also shared another snippet from the live reaction of CEO, BunnyJoker, and Oxfurd over the “Why Hardcore Full Loot PVP MMO’s Fail” video on Profane Twitter. It’s obvious BunnyJoker is passionate about full loot PVP.

Project F4e

Last week we got a peek at the Cleric, an enemy you’ll encounter in Project F4e. If the Cleric didn’t look evil enough for you, this week they posted the work-in-progress image of a demon spider on the Project F4e Discord. This eight-legged demon looks ready to tear you to pieces.

Prosperous Universe

The PU trio is back to share all of the happenings from the previous week with Development Log #306.

Realm of the Mad God

The Month of the Mad God is over, but that just means it’s time for another event in RotMG. You can read all about the 13 Days of Headhunting raffle, and everything else going on in RotMG, in the multiple postings this week to the RotMG Blog.

Soul Kingdoms

As promised, Power Proc Studios had their second class reveal this week. Everyone, say hello to the debuff specialist, the Occultist. You can read all about her debuff skills and AoE damage strategies on the Soul Kingdoms website. We can also expect two more class reveals shortly after the Soul Kingdoms playtest starts on October 26.

Trials of Ascension

As other Alpha and Beta tests were ending, Dragonfire Entertainment was spinning up a Trials of Ascension test. Anyone can download the client and play for free until November 30. Beyond that date, you’ll have to purchase an Alpha Pass to continue playing. If you’re interested, head over to the Trials of Ascension site and grab the game.

Villagers & Heroes

The Oases of Anuk’Amon event is almost over. You have until Monday, October 18 (or shortly thereafter) to collect any goodies you might want or need from the pyramids.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands

Wild Terra 2 received a grand update (their words not mine) this week, opening up Plague Isle to adventurers. This is just the first part of the Plague Isle update, with tons more content coming in two additional future updates. You can find all the details on the Wild Terra 2 Steam page.

Wurm Online

According to a Development Update on the Wurm Online Forums, there’s been a management change, with Samool stepping down and Keenan taking over as Product Manager for Wurm Online. Keenan is already hard at work on an updated roadmap, among other things.

Zenith Online

We got a special sneak peak at a new district currently being worked on for Zenith Online. The new district, The Underside, is the first area that showcases a more Cyberpunk art direction.
