Indie MMO Spotlight: It's A Mad World

Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related so you don’t have to. Since I finally got a chance to join the test, the big news this week is how much I liked the Mad World Alpha Test 5.0. The gory visuals may be too much for some, so be sure to check out the other alphas and betas coming to an indie MMO near you. But hey, why waste time telling you what you’ll find below when you could already be reading it. So let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.

Aether Story

Aether Story had two patches this week. Along with some bug fixes, some of the new Amberfall content received reputation reward buffs. There were also some changes to mining and blacksmithing levels to allow earlier access to ores and the items you can make with them.

Book of Travels

Following last week’s announcement that the team would be focused on bug fixes, a new patch was released this week. The patch is full of polish and the notes can be found on the BoT Steam page.

Chimeraland

It was brought to my attention (thanks to forum member Stizzled) that although Chimeraland was officially released in select SEA markets that there is no region lock in place. That means anyone can download and play Chimeraland. I was able to personally verify this on PC but it looks like it still isn’t available from the Google Play Store for Android users. Let me know if it can be downloaded from the Apple Store in the comments below.

The Cycle: Frontier

Yager Development released their 9th Dev Diary on Tuesday. This time around they tackled a common question: how are they going to monetize the game? While skins and other cosmetics will be one source of revenue, Yager also plans on offering Starter Packs, a Fortuna Pass, and the premium currency Aurum that can be used to supplement the K-Marks that you earn in-game. In conjunction with the dev diary, an interview by Twitch streamer LasySaiyanPrince covers these topics as well.

Dual Universe

With the Panacea update in the rearview mirror, the Dual Universe roadmap has been updated with the next patch, Athena. Anyone familiar with Greek mythology will quickly surmise that the patch will be focused on war and although there will be some non-combat improvements included in the Athena patch the major focus will be PVP.

Foxhole

Siege Camp held a Dev Livestream on the FoxholeGame Twitch channel this week. The stream covered the upcoming Update 48. The team went over a bunch of little enhancements before getting into the new content players can expect in the update.

Fractured Online

Much more than a static area to call your own, player made towns in Fractured Online will grow alongside your character. Starting as a Hamlet, player settlements will progress through 15 ranks across 3 stages. You can read all about the benefits of player made towns in the Feature Spotlight - Towns And Tech post from earlier this week.

Gloria Victis

With Weekly Update 308, players will now be able to progress through a new character development tree - Forestry. Like the recent mining update, the Forestry update brings with it a slew of changes, including new wood spawners with 5 tiers and a new carpentry workstation.

On a non-Gloria Victis note, Black Eye Games also announced that they would be publishing Nadir, a roguelike adventure influenced by Dante’s Divine Comedy. Developed by some recently acquired members the GV team, Nadir is expected to release some time in 2022 and currently has a demo available through the Steam Next Fest.

Into The Echo

The next Into the Echo pre-alpha test has been delayed by one week to March 12-13. The team hopes to have 1000 participants in the event. Invites to the event are being sent out now so be sure to check your email and spam folder to see if you are one of the lucky ones. There is also a new post on the website to give you a small taste of Into the Echo’s lore.

Mad World

Alpha Test 5.0 concludes today, Sunday, February 27. If you also enjoyed the test, or if you didn’t get a chance to join in, founders packs are now available in the Mad World cash shop. Any purchase made will be replenished for any future tests and again upon the official release.

OrbusVR

With a new patch released this week, the Spring Festival is back in OrbusVR. The patch also added 6 new NPCs and cleaned up a dozen lore books around the world. You can read the full patch notes here.

Past Fate

In addition to its Discord channel, there is now has an official Past Fate Guilded server.

Profane

It’s time for some more Profane concept art.

Project Gorgon

There hasn’t been much communication from the dev team, but the February dev blog makes up for that. It’s a long read and covers a multitude of topics.

Prosperous Universe

Development Log #323 is available for you to read.

Ravendawn

A new development update (#16) was posted this week. Be sure to check it out to catch up on all the good stuff the team has been working on.

Scars of Honor

It’s all about the Paladin in this week’s class discussion on the Scars of Honor forums. If you want to roll as a holy warrior, be sure to join in on the conversation.

Ship of Heroes

The February Newsletter is out and it gives an in-depth look at player bases.

The Wagadu Chronicles

Twin Drums hit a huge milestone this week with the release of Alpha-1 for The Wagadu Chronicles. If you’re an Alpha Backer, be sure to check your email for your login credentials.
