Each week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMO-related, so you don’t have to. This week, there’s less news than usual. Still, it’s a case of quality over quantity - several MMOs had major updates go live, one Eastern MMO open pre-registration for their Western launch, and one developer procured $22M in funding. So let’s quit wasting time and get started with this week’s Indie MMO Spotlight.
BitCraft
On Thursday, Clockwork Labs announced they had secured $22M in additional funding to further develop BitCraft. The funding will be used to scale up the team with additional engineering and programming talent at the top of the list. Funds will also be used to continue the development of a new database technology that will power the game.
Broken Ranks
A new update this week has added the Marketplace to the Broken Ranks world. The devs made it clear that this is not an auction house, and items will only be bought and sold at set prices. With the Basic Marketplace, players will be able to post up to 10 items at a time for a maximum of 7 days. There is a Buffed Marketplace that raises those limits to 100 items and a 30-day duration, as well as cutting the posting and selling fees in half. There were other changes and bug fixes in the update, so be sure to check out the full update notes here.
Chimeraland
It was another busy week for Chimeraland. Along with Phase 2 of the server mergers, it was announced that Chimeraland is now available on Steam. Proxima Beta also opened pre-registration for North America and Europe.
The Cycle: Frontier
The Cycle: Frontier received its first Pre-season patch this week. Executive Producer Jonathan Lindsay posted a dev update video covering the patch and the community feedback from the first week of release. Our very own Shane Breton has been giving the Prospector lifestyle a go and shared his first impressions with us this week.
Dual Universe
Novaquark shared an overview of the upcoming Mercury Update (0.30). The update, which should arrive this summer, will include new features like the Alioth Exchange, Novean Overview, and an updated LUA API, and players will receive a talent reset for each of their characters. Each player will also be issued one Summer DAC, which can be gifted to a friend to grant them one free month of play.
Ember Sword
The IMX migration went back online on Monday, allowing owners of badges and land to transfer their assets to the IMX network. The migration was halted over this weekend but will be back online on Monday, June 21st. Any owners who don’t migrate their assets to the IMX network will not be able to activate the features in-game.
Fractured Online
A new patch went live on Thursday. Included in the patch notes are mage staff upgrades, raids being re-enabled, and an update to the Aerhen continent.
Genfanad
Developer Heleor stopped by the RetroMMO Twitch channel where he discusses Genfanad with Evan Norton, creator of RetroMMO (which is now the newest addition to the IMS). There was also an update made to the Genfanad Kickstarter to add new backer goals.
Gloria Victis
The Weekly Update comes in video form this week. The video covers the final steps to version 1.0 which include reshaping the world map and changes to guild content and State of War Sieges.
OrbusVR
A new patch will go live on Tuesday, June 21st. The patch will feature the return of the Summer Festival (finish up any pending Spring quests ASAP!) along with a couple of new quests. You can read the patch overview here.
Profane
INSANE took to Twitter to show off some of the weapon models they have been working on. The weapon models, which range from utilitarian to magically exotic, all look like they could do some major damage to your foes. And although I am always partial to a nice battleaxe, that cleaver looks sick. What’s your fave?
Hey, community!Check out some of the weapons we have been working on and that you might see during Alpha (and testing). To save some effort and because they actually look pretty good, we decided to bring some of them from the Pre-Alpha assets. pic.twitter.com/bxYdm2Ds1c
