There are games released every year that people have been waiting for months or years. For many gamers, there is a list of games that they played growing up that they are itching for a remake. . That is how I have felt for years with my love of the PlayStation One era Final Fantasy games. Now we are mere months away from the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The year is 1997, and what will eventually become one of my favorite RPGs of all time has just been released: Final Fantasy VII. The first of a new wave of 3D rendered Final Fantasy games that would change the way we look at this type of RPG as a whole. The characters, world, and story are what drew me in as a kid, and the continued support through movies and other media are what continue to hook me in this world.

When you grow up loving a game like this, it generally means you have played it more than once over the years, and have probably tried to do at least one or two 100% runs in it. Currently, I have one such run going on Steam right now. I have beaten the game at least ten times since 1997, and I never regret playing it. The connection you feel for each character has them seem real - you can actively believe in the motivations of each character and think about them long after you’ve stopped playing..

Fast forward to 2020 and we have been hearing about the Final Fantasy VII Remake for a long time now. The fans finally get their chance to relive the game world with their favorite characters in all-new amazingly updated 3D graphics. We were recently told that the game would be delayed from its March date and pushed to April 10, 2020, and this disheartened me at first, but, on the other hand, we hope that we will be getting a more polished release, which would be a welcome change to recent game releases.
The videos of the character summons and the game world have been popping up all over the place. We will get to see Midgar remastered in a way never before imagined by fans. Being able to walk into the areas we have already seen will be one thing, but being able to explore all new sectors of the city and experiencing new story elements are what I am really looking forward to. Along with new characters, and an expanding lore for Final Fantasy VII, we will get to see a more full version of the original game. I have been excited to watch everything that has been released by Youtubers and by SquareEnix directly. Each update, each interview has me wishing to own the game more and more every day.
The ability to play again as Cloud Strife, to join forces with Barrett and Tifa, to see the relationship with Cloud and Aeris (or Aerith) it is all just so exciting. Ever since they teased it with the PlayStation 3 Tech Video, SquareEnix has kept me hoping and wishing, and soon we will all get the chance to embrace the new version of the game, with the team’s expanded vision for the game coming true. I am really looking forward to seeing what the teams full vision for Final Fantasy VII Remake will turn out to be.
April 10, 2020, will either be a day that lives in infamy for Final Fantasy VII Remake or it will be a day when members of the fandom shout in a collective joy about the game they have been waiting for. There may still be some people who dislike the game, and how it is being handled in multiple parts, but I for one can not wait to see how everything unfolds.
