Gamescom has become a launching ground for some of the major announcements throughout the year in games. It is Europe’s biggest show and host to thousands of fans. A lot of marketing goes into Gamescom for companies and usually, we get a solid list of announcements each year. There have been a few surprises this year and here are some of the things we are very excited came out this week.
5. BioMutant
BioMutant is a game being created by Experiment 101 and THQ Nordic. The game has a unique combat style with shooting, flying, and kung-fu. Yes, you read that right. The gameplay on BioMutant turned some heads last year when it premiered at the show. However, the company has been quiet all Spring and a few videos had been released since April. Now the game has shown up at Gamescom with some fantastic new videos and exciting footage. For RPG fans, BioMutant represents a fun style with anthropomorphized characters. Rumors still point to a release date this year hopefully sometime this fall. It will have a lot of competition with the heavy PS4 and Xbox schedules, however, this little gem may really surprise fans. Keep an eye out.
4. Cyberpunk 2077
Flying in on everyone’s radar is Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red’s dystopian future game follow up to the Witcher. Cyberpunk drew all of the attention at E3. It was the best demo we saw along with Fallout 76. All we have gotten from Gamescom today is a quick tweet from CD saying “game version 2.18.” We will have to wait and see what is coming this week from the epic game. If it is anything like we saw at E3, there will be a ton to look forward too.
3. Torchlight Frontiers
We here at MMORPG are huge Torchlight fans. We have followed Torchlight and Torchlight II religiously as fans of the action RPG. Now in these past few weeks, we have seen the announcement for the game as well as this week we see the first gameplay trailer coming out of Gamescom. The gameplay looks more intense than its predecessors which is exciting as it maintains its action RPG speed. The most exciting aspects of Torchlight Frontiers will be the online portions of the game. Right now we had the cinematic, now the gameplay trailer. Hopefully, we will learn more about the online play and how we can all join into Torchlight’s world.
2. Nvidia's RTX 2080
No words can really explain the excitement behind the RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Ti. However, price and market demand have become somewhat of a huge issue for Nvidia lately. Real-time Ray Tracing is no joke. There are a lot of questions surrounding the launch of these graphics cards, especially whether or not they'll truly be an upgrade. The prices are not too outrageous as Nvidia is keeping things somewhat fair for consumers. Check out all their announcements from yesterday.
1. Breach
Breach is coming out from QC Games. It has been under wraps for a long time, but the appeal to MMO fans will be huge. Coming from a large group of former Bioware developers the game brings you into a modern world where magic has opened up rifts into classic mythical realms. You fight alongside companions through scenarios against all kinds of fantastical foes. The game hosts a group of classes and tons of customization. It also allows a player to run the scenarios as a boss and fight against the party. Something a lot of the QC Games team had been working on with Shadow Realms which was never released. Breach stood out at E3 when we first saw it under embargo, but now the team is talking and we will have a much more in-depth preview at PAX next week.
