Foundry Focus: Ye Old Chuckle Hut

In modern MMOs a lot of adventures turn out to be nothing more than glorified fetch quests. Run there, get that, bring it back to me. Then others are the equivalent of being a UPS driver. Take this package and deliver it to random person of interest. But sometimes, if you are really lucky, you get quests that involve both of those but put their own unique stamp on it so you do not realise you have done this same type of quest for the last 20 years. But finally, on some rare occasions you finally run into a quest so unique that it defies normal conventions. In Ye Old Chuckle hut by @neurojam you find yourself judge, jury, and executioner under the guise of a comedy club patron.

Ye Old Chuckle Hut bills itself as the first comedy tavern of Protector's Enclave. The club also promises as an added bonus that there will be a human sacrifice at the end of the show. How the sacrifice is picked and why I’ll leave for you to discover. Just know that whenever you are part of a sacrifice be prepared to fight demons.

Where is Kramer?

Currently Ye Old Chuckle Hut is populated with 3 different comedians that are spoofs of real comics, living or dead. The first comedian you will get to see is Gerald Stienfelt. While none of the comedians are laugh out loud funny some of the jokes are so bad they are good. You are also provided the opportunity to heckle your comedians but instead of throwing rotten food at them you can step on traps and fill them with arrows.

The comedians are not the only memorable characters running around in Ye Old Chuckle Hut. With a wait staff full of NPCs such as Gertrude who will take your order then serve you what she thinks you should eat, and Bartender Vagdru who will ask you beer or ale then pretend you chose neither, it is amazing this place ever does any business.

It is evident that @Neurojam has put forth a lot of effort into this mission and players will enjoy it. To go any more in depth would spoil the rest of the surprises. Overall I award this mission a gold star. (Scale: Copper, Silver, Gold, Mithral).

At the end of Ye Old Chuckle Hut I go over the new producer’s letter from Andy Vasquez and talk about some of the more interesting points with the chat room. Andy covers a lot of good information in this letter. It “ranges” from the next class we could see in Neverwinter, what happened to Gauntlgrym, and the fact they are setting up a public test server to prevent bugs from leaking onto the live server. But that begs the questions, “how long after you set up a PTS can you continue to call your live server beta.” I’ll leave that dead horse alone and you can watch the video to hear all about my thoughts on the letter and the chat room's questions.

Make sure to keep the suggestions coming to [email protected] and I look forward to seeing all of you every Thursday night at 9:30 EDT on our MMORPG.com stream channel for the Neverwinter Foundry Focus. Thanks for watching and remember, stop and read the quest text.
